To my memory, and speaking of top level fighters, Oscar De La Hoya (Quartey, Whitaker, Sturm).

      Controversial wins for ali
Henry cooper (smelling salts and cut glove gave him extra times)
      Ken norton
Jimmy young (outlanded by around 100 punches and in most rounds)

      Controversial wins for Canelo
      GGG
      Lara
trout (wider than it should have been)
      Floyd mayweatmay's 114-114 card.

Mayweather got the victory so that's out of it.

So ODLH, Ali, and Canelo are at three.

Any fighter with more than three.

I have to agree with Canelo and Ali.

Ali had two controversial wins over Liston, Jones, Norton 2x, Young, Shavers, and Cooper.

Canelo had controversial wins over Trout, Lara, GGG 2x.

Floyd has a few too; Castillo I, Oscar, Maidana I, Pacquiao (illegal IV).

At the time I believe Quartey beat him, but Oscar got the loss against Trinidad which I thought he clearly won even after watching it again recently so I always evened those out.

Sturm for sure is the hype even though I never saw the fight. I would have to go back for the Sweepea fight. At the time I thought it wasn't a bad score and didn't like Oscar yet but that was a long time ago and worth a rewatch.

Agreed on the Trinidad fight. Oscar won that one, even if his bicycling in the last four rounds was horrible to see.

I think both the Quartey and Whitaker fights should have been losses for Oscar, though very close.

I included Sturm even without really believing that it was a real robbery. I remember thinking that Sturm didn't do enough when I saw the fight live on TV. Still, it was - like the others - a much debated result.

"Controversial", for me, is something that causes split opinions, not necessarily a blatant injustice.

Oscar beat Pernell fair and square. He was aggressor, ring general and landed much more power punches than Pernell. Pernell only landed jabs.

Meaningful offense is important. Especially in close fights.

I actually watched the fight several times, but the last time was long ago to be honest.

Still, I remember that Oscar's offense was not always "meaningful"... lots of misses as well. De La Hoya has built a whole career on the combination of missed flurries accompanied by screaming chicks
