Anthony Joshuas resume, an honest analysis

I'll only be listing "significant fights"

    1. Dillian Whyte

This win has lost a lot of its glow recently, though it was a nice KO, and Whyte did go on to prove he was a fringe top 10, the fact Joshua was wobbled by him and took an age to finish him off leaves it looking less impressive, I'll give it an extra mark for the finish

    (C)

    2. Charles Martin

Martin is basically a bum but Joshua destroyed him in like 30 seconds so you can't criticise

    (B)

    3. Wlad

Wlad was old, but he clearly trained as hard as he had in a long time, and he gave it all in the ring, Joshua should have finished him in round 3 or 4 when he dropped him, but his sloppy finishing and dodgy gas tank had other ideas. Wlad let him off the hook with a poor tactical decision and AJ did what he had to, you thought he'd improve from the experience, you'd be wrong

    (C)

    4. Parker

This was real warning signs for me because he treated Parker like he was Mike Tyson. Parkers team had zeroed in on Joshua as having a weak chin, at the time we weren't sure, but now we know they were right. Joshua fought safety first and the ref made sure no firefight broke out, it's a win but not in impressive fashion

    (D)

    Takam

Alarm bells just keep ringing. Takam did what Takam does and trundled like a middle aged French man. His little bit of upper body movement and high guard proved far too tough a puzzle for AJ, who clubbed away all night at the oak tree with zero creativity, the ref jumping in early to save everyone involved

    (E)

    Povetkin

Joshua had trouble with Povetkin, rocked early, but he did actually make some mild adjustments and the finish was nice, probably his second best performance

    (B)

    Ruiz 1

Boy oh boy, tactical naivety, poor chin, poor gas tank, poor recovery, poor survival skills, this one has it all, absoloutley DIRE

    (oh, hell no, F)

    Ruiz 2

Ruiz 400lbs and immobile, AJ treated him like an undetonated nuclear bomb, got the win but left as many questions as answers

    (C)

    Pulev

It's Pulev, he's crap, should have finished him a lot earlier

    (D)

    Usyk

Poor tactics, poor chin, poor stamina, questionable desire, weak inside, no second gear, boy oh boy. Chisora made Usyk look average at heavyweight, Joshua made him look like a god

    (Oh hell no F)

I’m not convinced AJ has a poor chin

    I think it’s mediocre

He took about a million left hands from Usyk, Povetkin wasn’t struggling landing hooks etc

Hes nothing special and rarely puts on a really impressive showing, but he has fought a relatively decent level of opposition quite consistently since he stepped up to Wlad. A lot of the names there would be the biggest win on the resume of a lot of other current HWs.

Hes basically a solid workmanlike fighter with pretty good raw physical attributes. Not as good as many initially thought he could be, but not as bad as some people think he is nowadays either.

        Pretty much he's a journeyman.
