What was the thought behind his very slow career progression relative to age? He seems to be hitting his career success prime at an age when many or most fighters consider hanging it up.

Actually welcome to modern boxing! these guys have these long Amateur reigns many of them come in to professional prize fighting rapidly approaching 30 years old or so.

There was a promotional issue similar to what Andre Ward went through. He signed with Top Rank in 2019, and then there was a Pandemic.

Imo , from watching him from day one since he landed in North America , I wouldn’t be surprised if he fights until 40
No , he ain’t getting old overnight , that’s what haters wish and it just ain’t the case here
To smart to stick around or should I say to proud if he begins to decline
            Just his way of doing

Not uncommon at all these days really to tell you the truth. Seems to be in Eastern Euro countries a lot. Some boxers have deep amateur careers and don't transition well to the pros.

Every boxers career is their own individual journey.

Fascinating actually when you think about it. Some boxers will get a “showcase” or a “coming out” bout that puts them on a map to success. Sometimes it doesn’t happen.

Some boxers get multiple opportunities, while some don’t. Some stars reign for what seems like forever, and some stars fizzle out right away.

That was was the case with Beterbiev when he beat Tavoris Cloud
Thunder was still sought out to be one the best light heavyweights
Artur destroyed him in only his 6th fight
                Then came the promotional problems
GYM just couldn’t get him the big fights kind of like Hearn with Andrade

Its cause hes from Russia. People from around there and eastern europe like to hang around in the amateurs for WAYYY too long beating up teenagers and turn pro very late. its a very FOOLISH move for a number of reasons:

Amateur boxing ISNT pro boxing and lots of times these "amateur pedigree" guys end up getting SMASHED in the pros. Just make it a grimy ass fight and the amateur style folds (Loma's second pro-match is a good example)
You make LESS money the later you turn pro, odds are
AND the biggest problem of them all: YOU WASTE TIME, the one thing you dont got in boxing is TIME, so if you turn pro at 30, you already wasted a DECADE of your pro-career.

I know some pros do this same mistake like Gervonta Davis who has been fighting taxi drivers (outside of a few fights) and we keep hearing "hes young" but meanwhile Tank is almost 30 and in his weight division the boy about to be WASHED, so he better start fighting some live bodies now.
