That fat ufc chump was a former NCAA wrestling champion and just barely missed the olympic team. Have there not been national golden gloves winners who missed making the olympic team and gone on to become world champions at the pro level??Comment

Rigo is the greatest amatuer boxer ever with over 400 plus fights. Its not like MMA where they can just draft in the Undertaker and give him a title shotComment

I'd be totally pissed.
It's a slap in the face of all the other professionals out there who've been busting their ass for years and earned a way into the rankings.
He shouldn't even be in consideration until he makes it to around 18-0 or 20-0, IMO.Comment

1st off Rigondeaux is NOT the greatest amateur boxer ever. He has 2 golds. The record for olympic boxing is 3. And so far just about everyone that has posted on this thread has taken the opportunity to **** on MMA as opposed to answering the question which is purely boxing related on how they would feel about Rigondeaux getting a title shot with only 5 professional fights as he seems poised to do so.Comment

Rigondeaux has a **** load of amateur fights against some of the best comp in boxing,he is not some washed up college wrestler who play acted in the wwe for 5 years.Particularly the ones who bash the UFC for having a heavyweight champion with only 5 professional fights.
How would you feel about Guillermo Rigondeaux getting a title shot after only 5 professional fights??? He's a rare specimen that I believe is already ready for a title eliminator after tonight. And will definitely get a title shot after only roughly 10 professional fights. Give or take a couple.Comment

Yes...but he's already made the jump from 4 rounders to a 10rounder in just his 3rd professional fight. A jump even the best fighters dont make until roughly between 14-18 pro fights. He already has enough talent to take on the top 5 non belt holders in the division. Not saying he would win for sure. But he's definitely ready for it even though he has several holes in his game still. So hypothetically he could get a title shot with only 5-7 pro fights with the right matchmaking.Comment

I'm not an MMA basher but the kid definitely deserves it. He has THE most decorated and accomplished amateur boxing career. The only reason he's not a world champion right now is because he was stuck in Cuba and not allowed to go pro. I say if the kid has the talent then he should go for it. MMA is still young and has nowhere near the same number of traditions that Boxing has. 5 fights may be acceptable in the MMA, but in Boxing you usually need 20-25 fights under your belt unless you are some kind of special talent as I believe Rigondereaux is.Comment
