Morrell probably didn't say half the words we've read on here recently. His manager is doing all the trash talking to hype a potential fight. This happens very often for fighters who can't speak english.

I watched an interview of him just before his last fight on Boxeo Mundial - a yt channel that focuses on latino boxers - where he's asked about Benavidez and Canelo and he had nothing bad to say about them.

      Finally someone thought rational!!!
Morrell is not ready for Benavidez yet, in a couple of years he will.

Ronnie won't allow Morrell to get the Benavidez fight before Jermall, Sheilds always steers his fighters into easier paths so that his Money keeps rolling in. David Morrell should leave Ronnie Shields before he ends up like jermall Charlo fighting C+ level Fighters, either way David Benavidez K.O.'s his kid RN or 5 fights from now

Nothing wrong with bringing along a young fighter at a proper pace. No need to rush the man into fighting Benavidez.

yeah I been saying that, WHY rush things! Anthony Dirrell, Demond Nicholson either one of those guys would be perfect for him

24 years young, Benavidez 25, the Goal should be to continue to build both guys up then when they clash it should be High Stakes and a lot of money for it but to do it now is a waste

              Benavidez vs Plant
              Morrell vs Dirrell

I think Ronnie is wrong to stifle this young mans career. I hope like the article stated that his input can be ignored. Don't follow the path young man, create your own path.

Maybe I'm being too hard, it looks like everybody except Boxing Scene thinks Morrell isn't ready. They took his blather as fact and posted it like gospel, but I don't think they lied.

Benavidez is an exception not a norm. Benavidez is clearly operating at a different level offensively than most other fighters his age. Partly because he started pro so young and has been given opportunities to develop.

Morrell is doing really good as well but you can see the obvious areas where he can improve. In one year he should be a lot more refined.

All that said I still favor Benavidez to beat Morrell now or even a year from now.

Even if his fighter is begging for it, it would be irresponsible for a manager to allow a 7-0 fighter in with Benavidez. Just not smart match making and could derail a career if he got badly beat up.
