Ain’t my money so who cares.
How to blow £1bn in a year (DAZN)

Failing to get BT was a massive blow. That could have been a problem solver. DAZN are f***ed IMO. I almost guarantee they’ll no longer be involved in the sport in 5 years if not less. Nothing against them, I actually liked the concept but they backed the wrong horse in Hearn and the model they created was completely unsustainable.Comment

Exactly mate, but when anyone points out DAZNs unsustainable business model, you're automatically labeled as a hater who wants boxing to fail.

The moment they contradicted themselves with the whole PPV thing I stopped rooting for them tbh. It soon became clear they were looking to make a quick buck from boxing rather than invest in the sport.Comment

So what makes DAZN any different from all the other platforms who sell PPVs for big fights? How are they "out to make a quick buck" while all the others are "investing in the sport"?
I know you're a UK fan, like me, which makes your comment even more baffling, as DAZN haven't made any fights PPV in the UK.
Canelo vs Bivol was screened live on DAZN at no extra cost to UK subscribers. Canelo vs Plant was PPV on BT. And trust me, neither BT nor Sky sell PPVs to make money to invest in the sport. They do it to make money for themselves.Last edited by kafkod; 06-06-2022, 12:45 PM.Comment

Did u do the same w/pbc? Free boxing turned into multiple ppvs a year. Martin/Ruiz anyone?Comment

It's a lot of money, but I don't see them pulling the plug anytime soon.
Not bad, even if it only fills the gaps other platforms don't care covering.
Who would forget that fans use to get one fight a month, sometimes months?
Nowadays it's almost every week.Comment

i think you’re right, I can see them being out of boxing soon

I know they do well in Japan, Italy, Germany etc, I think they have rights to some football in Italy and Germany, as well as other territories. In a lot of their territories they have rights to La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Champions League etc.
They even have rights to WWE wrestling in some countries, which is probably decent business
they’ve been going 6 years already and acquired some major rights in some territories, and that’s growing in some countries. Having the likes of Serie A and Bundesliga in their respective countries is probably just as good as having Premier League in England, so that’ll keep them in business if they renew all those rights.
I could see that they might eventually start going back to limited countries being able to use DAZN, or it’ll end up like BoxNation, still there but no new content.
I can’t see them keep pumping money into the UK and US market if they don’t acquire major sports, and it doesn’t seem they can anytime soon. I think they were banking on that BT deal for the UK. So if they stop investing in the UK and US, that really means boxing out of the equation too
But anyway let’s be real, they’ve already done a huge U Turn on their business model and started introducing PPV in the USA, the UK will follow soon as long as they’re still in boxing, that’s obvious. That’s because their business model/selling point was either never honest or not sustainable, probably both.Last edited by deathofaclown; 06-06-2022, 01:53 PM.Comment
