Comments Thread For: Naoya Inoue, Nonito Donaire Make Weight For Anticipated Title Unification Rematch

Nonito Donaire checked in at his heaviest weight since returning to bantamweight more than three years ago. The four-division champion and future Hall of Famer still managed to weigh in comfortably within the divisional limit for his long-awaited rematch with Naoya Inoue, weighing a ripped 117.8 pounds. Inoue hit the bantamweight mark right at 118 pounds for their three-belt unification bout Tuesday evening (local time) at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

That’s my takeaway too. I think youth overcomes age for sure. But I think Nonito will go down fighting valiantly.

The last one of a great generation rooting for Nonito on this one …

The first line of the article, " Nonito Donaire checked in at his heaviest weight since returning to bantamweight more than three years ago".

Looking at the weighin pics from the first fight he don't look any different.

Nonito usually looks bad at the weigh in then rehydrates and seems fine come fight night.

Doesn't help that this is the ****tiest possible photograph in existence for 2022.

I want Inoue to bodybag him and get the next gen moving forward we are watching an ATG bantam here and this guy could end as one of the best if he stays at that weight

I'm not sure what to make of this comment, because the same can be said in favor of Donaire, and his being one of the best boxers too (achievements in multiple divisions), even if he doesn't have the same dominant record as Inoue does in one division.

And if Inoue is indeed part of the next generation, he has plenty of time to be recognized as an ATG. Donaire is in the twilight of his career, and a win against Inoue (followed by retirement) would help/reward Donaire much more than it will hurt the younger Inoue.

                I don't know.... Maybe I'm just a fan of old-timers and I can't not root for them.

These two are fantastic fighters, Inoue perhaps a bit more so. But Donaire has had a stellar career, his only disappointing performance I remember was against Rigondeaux.

If these two guys were at a heavier weight they'd be more celebrated, that's how it is with the media when it comes to boxing.

That's a bit extreme. What did Nonito ever do to you?
