Don't forget that Oscar was also out boxing Mayweather and is naturally a lot bigger. This is a MUCH harder fight than some people expect. Trinidad early in his career was a decent boxer, he always knew how to cut of the ring when he had a size advantage over his opponent( which he would in this fight) and was an excellent body puncher when he choose to be. Not saying he would win, but he definitely had a chance. He has beaten some skillful boxers and was unbeaten at welterweight.

cotto might have beat mosley and clottey but that doesn't mean just because pacquiao beats cotto that he could beat cotto and clottey.

be honest, no matter how you twist ****, if pacquiao beats cotto at welterweight then he is a legit welterweight.

pacquiao beat an old delahoya. still a good win for pac but doesn't mean he belongs at 147.

neither does beating hatton at 140 mean he belongs at 147.

cotto has certain disadvantages that gives pacquiao a good chance of beating him.

out of all the top welters right now , cotto is probably the only one pacquiao could beat.

because cotto isn't that tall , doesn't have a reach advantage , prone to cuts , doesn't have the greatest stamina , probably the only one pacquiao can hurt out of the elite 147 guys , etc.

oscar won 3 or 4 rounds at the most and your comparison is weak because oscar is a much better boxer than trinidad, he was able to outbox trinidad as well but didnt get the decision win. Apart from that he chose the ringsize, gloves, weight, etc.

If a mentally weak vargas could outbox and outpunch/counterpunch trinidad and make it a very competitive fight until the 10th round then floyd would definately do better as he is mentally strong, better athlete and much better boxing/counterpunching skills. Floyd would land over 50% of his punches in this fight.

If you say mayweather isnt a REAL WW & is more of a super lightweight.....then u should be giving him tons of props for moving up in weight and beating guys at much higher weight classes. I dont see Cotto or Clottey moving up to JMW or even MW to fight the guys above their weight classes

Then why do you want floyd to face "legit welterweights" when isn't one himself? yet pacquiao doesn't have to face "legit welterweights" according to you. I for one think cotto, margarito and mosley are more of light middleweights fighting and welterweight, and floyd and pacquiao both have grown into welterweights, people grow in weight. pacquiao was 145 pounds in his fight against morales at 130, floyd comes at 147-149 at fight night, floyd beat oscar and hatton, pacquiao did an easier job on them. lets wait and see the outcome of JMM-Mayweather to assess this better, i want Mayweather to face the winner of pacquiao-cotto as do most fans whether its cotto or pacquiao it doesn't matter, the winner of that fight should fight the winner of JMM-Mayweather whether its Marquez or Mayweather again it doesn't matter. For all we know we could be seeing pacquiao vs marquez 3 if they both win, which i think is somewhat possible.
