There are plenty of white and black people who love Mayweather. Boxing just isn't as big in the US as it was when Ali was fighting and it didn't hurt that Ali was a heavyweight. Mayweather is about as big a star as could really be imagined.

Here's the thing, though. Muhammad Ali stayed calling just about every and anyone a Uncle Tom and people forget that. To date, the only person who Mayweather has called and Uncle Tom is Manny Stewart. I'm not saying it's true that he is, but does it really surprise anyone that Mayweather would call him one? Really...now be honest.

But Muhammad Ali called just about every opponent and any Black person who supported them Uncle Toms. Just about every writer on this site says Mayweather plays the so-called "race card." I'd love to see their reaction to the things Ali used to say. Mayweather's rants are very tame compared to Ali. Even Bryant Gumbel was inspired by Ali to call Joe Frasier an Uncle Tom.

When it comes to race baiting Ali beats Mayweather by 1st round KO.

Mayweather isn't the best at playing the villian card. Long story short. He doesn't choose his battles well. The race card is so old and lame and tired. ***** is the president. Not saying that excuses any actual racism but just accept it and move on. Let your fists do the talking in the ring and shut everyone up by fighting the best and beating the best, WWs to be more specific. Yes Marquez is considered to be P4P #2 but Cotto or Shane would have been the right choice. Anyone who disagrees is gay. LOL.

              Good article.

He touched on something that I also think has a lot to do with people supporting Floyd.

He talks and talks on and on, about how his fights are going to be wars, and that the people will get to see fireworks come fight night...

              ...then...

You watch a Floyd Mayweather Jr fight, and see none of what was promised. You see a guy fighting very cautiously, and calculated, taking little to no risks, in a boring 12 round decision.

Now I understand that boxing fans should already know what to expect leading up to a Mayweather fight...

But what about casual boxing fans who only tuned because of the promise from Mayweather and company that they would be getting their money's worth..?

I think this hurts the sport more than anything. Those people will likely feel roobed of their money, like almost everyone who payed for the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight did.

me too. i'm black, and i love mayweather......

problem is, many ppl don't understand dude is doing a "job."

he's trying to sell fights, in a sport that's not what it used to be in terms of popularity.....he's created a persona that he uses to sell fights. when he does interviews, he is selling fights, on 24/7 he's trying to sell fights. the problem arises, when your everyday knucklehead can't understand when someone is being an "entertainer," or when they're being a real person.

i just have never heard any stories of mayweather dissing fans, or turning down pictures with fans, by all accounts he's a nice guy "outside" the ring.

lebron james, on the other hand........

Dude be honest, Cotto is pretty much shot after dealing with Plaster boy and Clottey for a combined 23 rounds. If Mayweather would have signed to fight him people would admit that. Since Cotto is fighting Pacquiao people act like its not true even though in their hearts they know it is.

Then really, do you think fans really want to see Mayweather against a 38 year old Mosley over a fight with 30 year old Pacquiao? If you believe that then I'm sorry dude, but you're ******ed. LOL.
