Comments Thread For: Romero: Tank Don't Want This ****! If He Wished, He Would Fight Some Other 126, 122-Pounder

Rolando Romero claims Gervonta Davis has taken their fight only because it was mandated by the WBA. Given a choice, Romero believes Davis gladly would've fought someone other than him. Romero, of North Las Vegas, Nevada, is the WBA's number one contender in the 135-pound division, however, which was why the WBA ordered their fight last year for Davis' WBA world lightweight title.

I saw Rolly v Jackson Martinez & he was below dreadful. By no stretch of the imagination is Rolly like Ricardo Mayorga, Juan Roldan, Marcos Maidana or Sakio Bika.

I remember Mayorga beating Vernon Forrest. Mayorga always made me think of what Roberto Duran would've been if he hadn't met Ray Arcel. Mayorga couldn't box but my god he could fight.

Maidana was a fairly well educated boxer but, obviously, his biggest strengths were power, chin, stamina. He lost a 'fight for the ages' against Amir Khan. Maidana's skills were way above Romero's.

Roldan & Bika were just bad, hard men. Brawlers with scary man strength. I would add Dennis Andries to make a trio. I honestly don't think Rolly compares with Roldan, Bika or Andries. He isn't inhumanly strong, tough or durable. Also, of course, all those guys were very beatable by better boxers & their records show it.

I thought Floyd just edged Maidana, but, yeah, all about opinions. I will, to my dying day, say Castillo beat Floyd in their first fight. There is not one ATG that hasn't had at least one doubtful decision, with possible exception of Marciano & Hagler. SRR nudged past La Motta when he should've lost. At the tail end of his career Ali got gifted wins over Norton & Young that he didn't deserve. SRL didn't deserve a draw v Hearns in the rematch. Lennox probably lost to Ray Mercer. etc etc

Just an overall quality post. Can't disagree with anything you said regarding Romero, Mayorga, Maidana, Roldan and Bika.

I've seen Rolly fight and I've seen those other guys fight and Rolly isn't them.

While I dont rate Rolly that high, I do find him funny when he runs his mouth. I doubt he backs up that talk with a win but I hope if he goes down (which I expect), he goes down guns blazing.
