Hopkins better resume than Roy Jones (47-18):

Hopkins better resume than Calzaghe (53-8):
    http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...resume+hopkins

And there are several threads that have hopkins having a better resume than pacquiao.

So again, that begs the question: who out there today has a better resume than hopkins? No one answers this question.

All of these threads, and the fact that hopkins has one of the best resumes, if not the best resume today, and yet all these people in this thread downplaying his greatness. LOL that's boxingscene for ya!!!

I disagree big time with the cherry picking (fighting roy jones and glen johnson early in his career, fighting tough relatively unknown guys and fighting everyone at middleweight, doing crazy things like moving up to light heavyweight at age 40 to take on the best light heavyweight in the world, fighting undefeated 26 year old champions at age 43, etc.

But even if you believe he's a cherry picker, if you call hopkins one, then the same has to be said for Calzaghe (fought euro bums forever), pacquiao (fought old mexicans and overrated diaz/hatton, weight drained/old oscar), Roy Jones (fought taxi cab drivers his entire career, than got knocked out twice by b-level fighters), Mayweather (ducked cotto, margarito, paul williams, et al), etc etc etc etc etc.

You can nitpick everyones resume if you really want to, so if you call hopkins a cherry picker, everyone else is too.

He took on Tarver who was coming down from 218 and was nowhere near his own self. That faux victory shouldnt even be mentioned as an achievement!

              Key Word: Early.

I don't **** too much on his Middleweight reign. 20 defenses isn't something that can easily be done. You never know which one of those bums does a Buster Douglas on you. Why did he wait for Tarver to come back down from Heavyweight(movie) to fight him?? Why didn't he called out guys in divisions higher than him but instead called out Jr. Middleweights?? Vargas, Trinidad, Winky, etc.

As for Calzaghe, he lives on the other side of the world. You guys expect for every non American fighter to come to America and fight. If he was the Champion in the division...why did he had to come to America to fight someone and make a ton less than he does at his homeland?? Why can't Americans go fight him on his turf??

I agree with Jones, I think Hopkins is greater than him. I like Jones a lot more than Hopkins too btw.

thank you...and this is the general consensus for most of us who feel hopkins is overrated...

i can see if he moved down from 175 to 168 and dominated there, but move down two divisions to 160 and get all that f**king credit, hells no....

He didn't exactly have much choice in the matter against Jones and Johnson. He had to fight Jones for the vacant IBF title and Johnson was a mandatory. Johnson was undefeatd, but hadn't beat anyone worth mentioning.

As for moving up to fight Tarver:
1: He had to move up, because he couldnt make the mw limit comfortably anymore
2: He was returing to the weight he started at.

Do a lot of boxers cherry pick?. Sure, but that doesnt make it right imo.

yeah his resume looks great on paper, but pop in hopkins/oscar and you see what his detractors see...a scaled down 175 lb fighter looking like a crackhead at 160 beating up on a bloated welterweight....and it must be legit because the polls are dead even
