Matchroom dropped Qais Ashfaq pretty quickly after he lost to Leach and Kelly after he lost to Avanesyan. Whether their deals expired or it was because of a clause relating to the loss I’m obviously unsure of though. MR deals tend to have a time lapse attached to them, so it could have just been that.

Joyce didn’t really get the respect he deserved until he beat Dubois. He was a 3/1 underdog in that fight if I remember correctly. I was admittedly late to the Joyce party, I didn’t see him going that far past domestic level tbh, I felt he didn’t have a style suited to the pro’s, he definitely proved me wrong.

In hindsight, he was matched really tough and passed every test, even the likes of Lewison on his debut was very bold matchmaking. I think Joyce just doesn’t pass the eye test but in reality he’s very effective with what he does. Froch had similar question marks when he was coming up.
That would definitely make sense. Seems a bit of a product of the era now though where the 0 really appeals and losing it seems devastating in the majority of cases, I mean a fighter like Ricky Burns who had two losses from two fights when he'd first stepped up to Euro/Brit level, nowadays that would seem a bit of a career ender at the top level unless you had a really significant underdog win.

3/1's crazy, but Dubois was taking everyone out with minimal fuss around that time and I suppose he was coming off the Gorman win and a couple other quick KOs after it. Can see why they may have had it like that. Yh Joyce has earned his shot now. His profile seems to have built as well, I thought he might need to fight Whyte or something to really kick on, but people seem to be recognising that he's in the mix.

Wow. Where do we see things going from here? Fury-Zhang? Joyce retiring?

I reckon we'll get a rematch with Hrgovic v Zhang for an interim title.

I’m shocked tbh. I reckon they’ll exercise the rematch clause though. However, I’m not sure he can beat Zhang in a rematch.

Joyce was completely incapable of moving his head off the line of the left hand. He looked like a kid who’d never fought a southpaw before.

Zero chance Joyce retires. Zhang probably plays it safe until he gets a title shot. Joyce will have to build back up a bit, won't shock me if he has a rematch with Dubois a couple fights down the line

If they do exercise the rematch clause, I’d like to see Joyce:

                - Come in heavier and try to impose his physicality more.
                - Get closer to Zhang, try to push him on the back foot and take centre ring. Joyce was a sitting duck on the outside.

They might as well do the rematch because neither of these boys has a prayer against Fury, Usyk, or Wilder.

Could maybe even do it in China. Zhang would likely get a heroes welcome like Zhiming did after winning Gold at the Olympics.
