Benavidez is currently going through his fan hype phase.

The fan hype phase is when a young fighter, who has good power and lots of KO’s, albeit against low opposition, receives extreme and unreasonable fan hype him up while criticizing tested fighters.

Hence why his mere two wins, over two aging past prime fighters (Dirrell, Lemiuex), has granted him legendary status. His wins over these fighters also grant him fantasy fight privileges, where he beats everyone from 160 to 200lbs.

Fans are very fickle though. Once a fighter steps up and starts looking average, they jump ship to the next untested, undefeated fighter.

Right now Benavidez is also enjoying the “boogie man” status, where everyone is ducking him according to his fans.

DB is essentially elite without fighting any elites.

Hardcore fight fans should know better.
They are the ones going around calling everyone else casuals

I'm a long time Lemieux fan, picked him to win in the weekly pick'em but did so for fun. Had no illusions about his actual chances.

His best days were at 160 and against fringe contenders like Stevens, Guerrero, N'Dam and O'Sullivan. He hasn't been relevant for a long time and he's never been relevant at 168.

This was a showcase fight for Benavidez. Hometown fight against a faded name who will throw bombs and go out on his shield. Lemieux performed his role in the spectacle brilliantly but the fight result has no relevance in the super middleweight landscape.

Lemieux did play his role well and was a showcase fight but like David said in the post fight interview,he was the only one that was willing to sign on the dotted line. Plant,Andrade,Mall never did/don't want that work and to some extent Canelo. The only fight that matters at SM if Plant doesn't want any is Benavidez vs Canelo and it's very unlikely we get that. So David can only handle his business with whomever is willing to get in that ring with him and he did so in emphatic fashion last night. He's doing his part....

Absolutely. My post wasn't a criticism of anyone involved so much as just a relatively impartial observation.

I love Lemieux. Over the years, he's provided me great entertainment for being exactly who he is: a limited boxer who carried dynamite in his hands and was always looking to take your head off. Even in the process of getting blown out last night, he was throwing some heavy leather and was more than willing to go out guns blazing. I'm glad Benavidez paid him proper respect, he deserved that.

David was always game and was willing to take on anyone. I was gutted when he was outclassed by BJS and I really wished he had been able to make weight against Taureano Johnson because that would have been a very violent fight.

Not Canadian but im a big fan of Lemieux as well, going back to his loss to Rubio, which always puzzled me. I always remember look back fondly when he starched that loudmouth Curtis lol. Limited like you said and was soundly out boxed/destroyed by GGG and Saunders but the guy is all heart. He was out on his feet from rd 1 on last night but didn't quit and showed tremendous heart.
