Comments Thread For: Yoelvis Gomez Goes Distance For First Time, Dominates Jorge Cota Over Ten Rounds

GLENDALE, Arizona - Yoelvis Gomez went more rounds on Saturday night than he had in his entire pro career prior to this point. The end of his red-hot knockout streak wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as the Las Vegas-based Cuban dominated veteran fringe contender Jorge Cota over ten rounds to take a landslide unanimous decision win. Scores were 100-90 across the board in favor of Gomez in their Showtime-televised co-feature evening at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Glad Cota achieved his goal in this fight ...survive to see the last round.

Gomez is a real problem! Would be a good return opponent for Castano or Lubin! MAN UP!

Probably for the best that Gonez was stretched the distance. He'd been blasting people out so quick, he hadn't had the opportunity to test that gas tank. He's being moved pretty aggressively so beneficial to do this before he gets to a different level of more dangerous fighter.

Cota should have his paycheck withheld - when the first bell rang, he did nothing at all whatsoever.

I was so confused watching this fight. The commentators kept calling Cota a vet. But the whole time I was wondering if he was an amateur. Dude looked like a comedian playing a boxer on some sitcom.

Gomez's left hand was pissing me off the entire fight. He loops it way too much. If he straightened it up like Adonis, he get more use out of it.

Only 6 fights, and have a 10 rounder under his belt. How many prospects do you know, with 5 fights and 7 rounds fought, will be fighting a 30-5-27 Kos kind of vet?

What does level of competition have to do with his left hand?

A lot, experience and educate that left hand. He's looping it because in the amateurs, they use a close guard. Now he found out, the better the competition, the less that left hand is going to work. He has a good teacher and should learn to throw it from angles. And not put everything into every shot. He needs to learn how to change speeds. His father was like him, a murderous puncher that will go all out from the get go. Going the distance should do him some good. Be safe
