Must agree. I like Morrell, I think he has real potential, but he’s really just a prospect.

I don't think he's a prospect. He has a "belt", and has been fighting good opposition, specially for a prospect. 117-15 combined opposition in only 6 fights, not shabby at all. Two undefeated fighters, first one on his third fight going twelve rounds, and the other 1st round ko. This is what I don't get it with nowadays fans. The kid is challenging himself, and the fans are dismissing him, if is so easy, why not take the belt from him and shut him up? Tell me who benavidez has fought that is so overwhelming, compare to Morell jr opponents? Better yet, lets check benavidez first 6 fights. Be safe paisano, Morell jr is the real deal, along with Gomez, Perez, Scull, Pero. And a other six defectors under 18 fighting out of Dubai.

Some fans are into the whole, calling any title holder a champion BS, but sorry not me. He is about as much a champion as Devin Haney when he became “champion” by beating Zaur Abdullaev or Alfredo Santiago. Which ever of those no names made him champ.

And why exactly would Benavidez know about Morrell? Is Benavidez the WBA champion and Morrell is his mandatory?

Why exactly would he know about Morrell? Who did he beat to put 168 on notice?
I don't think you read the post correctly. I don't care about alphabet soup belts, but if you have one, you better fight good opposition, I think benavidez qualifies. Actually he, benavidez is more know for blowing up his title and suspended for doing coke, and now for calling out canelo, which looks to me like a payday. Who he has fought? I did this little research, first 6 benavidez fights, 1-7 opponents combined record, now compare that to Morrell Jr, 117-15, same first 6 fights. The kid likes to keep it real, he's looking to be the best, he ain't calling canelo out, he's calling the other guy, the one that's calling ginger out, you know, the one that wants a payday. Just for the record, i have benavidez as a very live dog if he fights canelo, or any 168 pounder for that matter, he's the real deal, so to Morrell Jr too. Be safe.

I remember when Spence was a contender that Thurman ignored, but like Spence, once Morrell gets a big win, he'll be unavoidable. He has a lot of skills and his footwork is superb. Facially he reminds me of my favorite singer, Sam Cooke.

Morrell has fought some decent opposition for his first six pro fights, but it’s still just six fights. Fingers crossed on this kid. Be safe.

Haha Funny, I didn’t catch the Cooke resemblance. But now that you mention it…

I know that and he was a decent amateur but OldFoolSleaze was talking nonsense trying to compare his accolades to Lomachenko and it's clearly not there. If they are Afro-Brazilian or Afro-Latino he loves them but if they are Mexican (There are Afro-Mexicanos as well) he hates them so it's just funny calling him out on his lameness not that he can see it because he blocked me like a swollen puss that old frail white man.

I got nothing against Morrell one of the more talented Cubans to enter the pro game in recent years but no way is Benavidez ducking him he has no name yet Benavidez is already up there for a big fight there's no point to regress you all know that.

                    1. I do not like David Benavidez, at all. Not even a little bit. I think he is an unprofessional loud mouth who lacks discipline and has already shown a tendency to price himself out of fights, e.g. Andrade. He also has a loss to Ronald Gavril in my book. On top of losing his title, at the time, in a few other ways, he already lost it in the ring as well, imo.

                    2. It is true that if you are a title holder, you should fight good opposition. It is also true that not all title holders are deserving of a title. Titles are pretty much given away like candy now. WBA Regular is one of those. They all do it. In 2022 it is common for, not even good/proven fighters, to have major titles. And I can’t believe a guy with 6 fights and no notable wins is a “champion”. A champion of what? Who did he beat for that title? How the hell did he become champion over the Ring’s top 10 fighters at 168?

                    3. Benavidez is not a title holder. I do not consider him a real champion anyway. Even if he beats Lemiuex, and becomes WBC champion, I still would not consider him a champion. Just like I didn’t consider Canelo a true champion for beating Matthew Hatton. For me, Canelo became a champion when he beat Austin Trout.

I agreed 100% with your betls assessment. But at the end of the day, it's about who do you fight. In this case, benavidez is complaining about competition, Morell jr is putting himself on the map, by offering to fight him, I don't see anything wrong with that. Is not that benavidez is a megastar, that has fought everyone. This a case of taking a risk and move up the ladder. We all be very upset, if Morell jr next fight is against a 15-12 guy with half of the losses by ko. He's not afraid of losing that "0". His opposition speaks volumes about how his team and himself feels. Be safe
