Would you fault Canelo for running away from a rematch and dropping back to 168?

Not exactly, size was certainly a factor. If your plan is to power punch somebody into submission but you can't actually hurt them, then size is an issue. Conversely, if your opponent has spent his entire career at a weight 20lbs higher than your natural weight, they can generally hurt you a bit (which tempers your enthusiasm to exchange), which Bivol showed. Bivol was cautious about Canelo's power, but opened up after a while when he realized it wasn't anything special to him. Joe Smith Jr can crack a hell of a lot harder than Canelo.

Canelo needs to man up and finish what he started. He's the same size as Bivol so he shouldn't be trying to flee down to a lower weight. But just imagine an supposed ATG running away like this with his tail between his legs. His legacy would be forever tarnished. But I can actually see Canelo running back down to 168. **** like that is why Canelo is not respected among Mexicans like Oscar was. If Canelo runs away it will prove he doesn't have the heart of a true Mexican.

His plan to power punch him into submission simply didn't work because he was landing off Bivols arms/guard, a lesser fighter with a leakier defence would have likely have been folded by Canelo or at least a more convincing case to say he won the fight would be made.

I don't really think Canelo was ever seriously hurt in that fight, he just struggled to land anything clean off a guy who was managing his reach advantage very well. It's not the first time we've seen Canelo swinging and missing.

I've always held the idea that Canelo has improved, but not to the extent that he would cleanly beat the Lara that schooled him or the Mayweather that schooled him, he just isn't good with fighters who are slippery.

Well, Bivol said he would fight him at 168 so I can’t see why Canelo wouldn’t want to do it but he better come in with a far more unique game plan. I don’t think Canelo can beat him as is. He has to have the ability (few do) to change his style. That’s very hard to do.

            We’re back to 155 again?

Did you see anything on Saturday night that leads you to believe Canelo could ever beat Bivol? Never mind, I forgot I was talking to the guy who posted “ most in the media had Canelo winning”.

Will be interesting to see what Canelo does in this situation.

I agree with that. I think Canelo absolutely demonstrated a ton of improvement since fighting Floyd in 2013, but I also think his recent success moving up has caused him to regress quite a lot. He's just become drunk with the perception of his own greatness that he thinks he's just going to steamroll everyone. As I've said in other posts, he fought much the same way in his last fight against Plant. The only difference is that Plant can't give or take a punch.
