What if Canelo really fought Makabu at cruiserweight

Let me remind you, Canelo didn`t think about Benavidez or Charlo, Canelo had some crazy idea to fight Makabu next.

Makabu is not Bivol, he is not so good but clearly stronger. We could have seen Canelo being hurt badly here. His career could be over.

When Bivol started landing his 5-6 punch combos, Canelo didn`t like it. Imagine Makabu landed something big on Canelo.

I think Reynoso had the right idea, they should have gone after Makabu and won a belt at 200. Makabu is a completely different stylistic matchup from Bivol. Yes, he's stronger and certainly hits harder. But Makabu is a face first brawler that is easy to hit and is starting to fade with age. He's ripe for the picking and Canelo would have pieced him up imo. It is a more DANGEROUS fight from a power perspective, but I think Canelo would have found it very easy to land clean on Makabu, who is probably a hair shorter than Bivol and would not have come with a similar gameplan to defeat Canelo. Had he gone up to 200 and KO'd Makabu, Canelo would really be getting people to whisper about a mega fight at HW, now that idea seems ludicrous.

Agree with everything you said. Canelo would be way to sharp for a plodder like Makabu. Defensively too good also.

The question now is, would Canelo's power actually move Makabu even though he is easier to hit? Canelo and Chavez Jr couldn't dent 175s. Some of those hooks and uppercuts were landing and didn't even snap Bivols head back. The only advantage I see is the WBC was going to move CW down to 190 for Canelo and drain the hell out of him. More Fraud.

It would have been targeted practice for canelo. Makabu hasn't got the best gas tank either so would have probably got him out of there late on

Personally I thought the idea was foolish, yes canelo might be able to out point him but it would have been like sparring an oak tree and Makabu wouldn't have to land much to damage canelo.

            168 is where canelo belongs.

Like I said when it was talked about, he’d probably lose.

The fact that the idea of Canelo vs LHW and CW Champions are considered cherry picks is ridiculous.
