middle school/high school wrestler turned boxer right
His hands would be well beyond anything they see in ufc
I agree, but in MMA, you aren't taught to sit on your punches too much in order to prevent takedowns. That's why most mma fighers lack standup because facing a guy like Khabib, you're not going to be throwing combinations and trading with him. The first time you miss, he's gonna put you on the ground, dry hump the stamina out of you, then submit you.
Looks like a Thin guy but he has excellent Core Strength. Add some Kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu to go with his Boxing and Wrestling and yeah he could have some success for sure but MMA is different and far more unpredictable because you can lose in multiple ways which makes it impossible to prepare for. You could get caught with a Front Kick out of nowhere like Ferguson last night or you can get Choked TF out like Gaethje
Boxers do horrible in MMA because they sit on their punches which is terrible because the impact of leg kicks inh such a stance. It also lets you get taken down easily, it's just not good. He would need to approach the fight relying more in what he knows from wrestling instead of boxing, and there are thousands of high schools wrestlers in MMA already. There is also the fact that most wrestlers avoid focusing on striking and learn Jiujitsu because it's way more efficient at getting stoppages and winning fights. Look how Justin Gaetjhe lost last night. He could succeed though, but it's only because he is a great athlete that could technically learn fast Muay Thai and BJJ and because the talent pool in MMA is really bad.
Boxing sucks for MMA, is too limited in an actual fight with kicks and takedowns. If it wasn't then we would be seeing tons of B level boxers succeeding in MMA because the talent pool in MMA is extremely low but almost all of them get kicked, clinched and submitted. MMA fighters are also horrible boxers too for the same reason, they have to re-learn everything.
