Comments Thread For: Hearn on Bivol-Canelo Rematch Clause: Ultimately Up To Saul To Active It

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that we could very well receive a second helping of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol in the fall. On Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Bivol retained his WBA light heavyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Canelo.

Canelo shouldn't take the rematch and I don't think he will. He was completely lost in there and Bivol looked like he was just warming up.

Canelo got hurt rspecially when tried to slam bivol. Bivol footwork to quick outside size boxing iq and slavic chin. Canelo shouldnt rematch. To small yet to heavy for own good at 175. Go back to 168 clean it out only move up after beat david his size similar to avg 174-175er win that then know its time to move back up.

This is the perfect time for Hearn to make GGG vs Andrade. Gives GGG a stay-busy fight (maybe), and gives Andrade the opportunity he needs, and deserves, according to Hearn.

Despite what ppl keep saying about 'cherrypicking' and all that, I agree.

Big GGG fan (seriously), but what wins me over as a boxing fan, even more than skill set, is putting on loads of fights and/or taking tricky fights.

That run of 4 fights in 12 months to clean up at SMW, in particular, had Canelo winning me over.

What's more, he's still an A-class boxer. Just so happened to come up against an A+ boxer. Which if you keep fighting and going for belts, you're likely to do at some point...

                And off nights happen.
Maybe Nelo feels in his heart he could have done better.

He should take it IMO. Try and come up with something else. Don't get me wrong, Bivol's a better boxer, but its about time Canelo tried to mix his game up a bit more.

His game's a bit become one-dimensional in recent times, when I see he's capable of more; see GGG 2.

Ofc, he's had a few tests, but none of the previous opps have asked him the kind of questions to motivate tactical innovations like Floyd and GGG, and now Bivol have.

I say go back to the drawing board, see what works and have another go, otherwise this loss hangs over you.

                    They do.

Personally, I don't think this was an off-night, I just think what worked against everyone else didn't work against Bivol.

Honestly, it would pay for Canelo to get fitter, lighter on his feet, and look to come forward more, win, lose or draw. If he does, and finds he can put more pressure on Bivol, he may find some openings in that tight defence.

As it stands, Bivol's mastery of distance and footwork give him the advantage. He's mobile in a way Canelo isn't.
