He should be a wealthy man at anywhere from 6 to 12 million dollars so I could see the appeal of retirement

I was impressed with Kell Brook the first time I watched him fight, which was the Shawn Porter fight. Watching him in the corner between rounds - his composure, calmness, fitness (I don't think I ever saw him breathing heavy), really stood out to me. Great skills. Great will. Impressive fighter. While not the BEST of his generation (only a few ever are), he had an excellent career and hung tough with everybody, even GGG. That takes some serious mental fortitude and self belief to go up two weight classes like that and fight a monster. And he didn't cave; he just got beat up by the bigger, better, fighter. No shame in that.

As I've posted before (which echoes some comments on this thread), as great as his career was I think it could have been better had it been managed better (NOT fighting GGG, moving up to 154 earlier, etc). But, all in all, he had a boxing career to be very proud of. And I guarantee he'd whoop any of the hater's on here who act tough behind a keyboard but wouldn't dare lace up the gloves.

Best wishes to you in your retirement Special One.

                Good decision

very, very good fighter with a bit of a wasted prime. People say it was a bad decision fighting GGG, but it was probably an even worse decision to drop back down two divisions after that fight, eye surgery etc and go straight in with Spence. I still think 100% version of Brook is a 50/50 with Spence.

anyway, might as well retire. Has plenty of money and why get used as a gatekeeper for someone that couldn’t lace his boots in his prime. Unless he’s using it as leverage to get a bigger payday.

Dude had a downright strange career.

While his counterpart Khan was off in America fighting a string of big names, Brook's title run started off more like the typical 90s German boxer - get your hands on a world title, defend it at home against soft touches in front of packed arenas. Looked like he was just going to do that his whole career.

And then, out of nowhere, he jumps up two weight classes and fought ****in' Gennady Golovkin. I know he gets some props for his performance, but it was a terrible idea. He was never even close to the same fighter after that.

He had to fight Spence after that and the rest is history. It's a shame because that era was white-hot when it came to welterweights - Alexander, Matthyse, Maidana, Broner, Thurman, Garica, Berto, Ortiz, Mosley... not to mention Mayweather and Pacquiao. Brook showed he could hang with them in the Porter fight... damn shame none of the above fights ever happened.
