Max schmeling and joe lewis fought their rematch during WW2. times were different back then.

people are such programmed robots. Nobody from russia can fight now because a few celebrities declared "its the right thing to do"? Russia-ukraine is a minor skirmish compared to ww2, people werent such gullible ******* back then.

wlad can go *** himself. he is day dreaming about coming back to fight anthony joshua as a middle aged man and in the next sentence saying in his determination sovereign citizens have no right to fight based on their nationality. he can go *** off. props to canelo for keeping this fight and keeping it for the titles.

Prevention is not the point. The point is punishment, which, hopefully, will result in pressure on the government since the country is turning into a rogue state nobody wants anything to do with. And at some point the government will start making concessions. It might not have worked with other countries before, but it might work with Russia as the times are different and Russia has been integrated into world economy, sport and etc. Deintergation will be painful. Which is the intent. Otherwise, Russia faces zero consequences. Well, except for scary UN resolutions, of course.

Boxing is a business. Major business are pulling out of russia and not including russia-linked stuff for obvious reasons. As a business, dazn should know better. If the fight does not do the numbers even with canelo's brand, they will know why. Canelo is supposed to be this ppv star that transcends it all, yes? We'll see...

There is no hope of that happening. Russia has been punished by the IOC before the war started in that it's athletes cannot compete under the Russian flag because of a major doping program. The invasion still happened.

The government is NOT making concessions yet after all of these sanctions. Do you think banning Bivol and Beterbiev will influence ***** when massive sanctions and 15-20,000 dead troops does not influence him? No chance.

By punishing Bivol and other individual athletes like tennis players all we are doing is making them suffer and not ***** and his cronies. And also making ourselves feel better by having the feeling we are doing something - ineffective as it is.

The financial sanctions and movement restriction sanctions are what are and will cause pain for the Russian government and influential members of their society. They don't care a hoot for the common people otherwise they wouldn't have sent thousands of young soldiers to their deaths.

I will say that team sport might be a different case and also if an athlete was openly supporting the invasion that might be different too - might mind you.

There is no doubt about it, Russia is far worse than America for rules of engagement in wars and what black stuff goes on, russia is far far worse, i think its great that america is strongly supporting ukraine in this war & what russia has done supporting assad barrel bombing civilian areas etc was terrible. But also the US & UK supply huge amounts of arms to brutal regimes like saudia arabia because they pay so well so all sides are at it. Pretty much all invasions are wrong & its civilians who end up suffering the most & most of the deaths are actually covered up and not reported so are often even far higher than reported numbers.

You said it yourself that IOC banned Russia to participate under Russian flag because of its doping. And then you make a leap towards how this hasn't stopped the war. Puzzling how you make this connection.

Little strokes fell big oaks. Firstly, the true effect of the sanctions will be seen closer to the end of the year. Secondly, no, banning 2 Russian athletes will not do anything. But at some point people might start questions in Russia: why don't we have almost anything from car parts to tampons? Why is Russia banned out of everywhere? Why can't we even watch Western movies in the movie theater? Why is everyone hates our government? This is the intended effect of ostracizing Russia. Will it work? I don't know. But, as you pointed out, we need to feel better about themselves.

Generally, Im not sure I fully agree with Klitschko here wrt Bivol or any Russian athlete. Klitschko is speaking out of emotion. Understandably. But it's not completely devoid of rationale as I described above.

I'm Russian, btw. I don't live there for many years now, but I kept up to date with what's been going on there since ***** came to power. And now Russia has become a ******* state. Which direction it took many years ago. Remember that in 1936 there were Olympics in Germany. No, they didn't cause WW2. But they legitimized Hitler and empowered him to think that what he was planning to do will also be supported by the world. Does this remind you what happened in Crimea following Russian Olympics in 2014? The world imposed some half ass sanctions, but largely ignored it. Then in 2022 ***** went all in. If he isn't stopped now, he might go even further. So, yeah, Russia needs to feel it's been ostracized. Any means would do.

absolutely mate ......sick of this narrative with Ukraine as angels and Russia as the devils and there is so much people don’t know about this conflict......using a boxer as some kind of political pawn is awful and that Ukrainian robot should know better.....imagine if he was in bivols shoes I’m sure he would be crying like a ***** if another boxer said the same.
