Why does the UFC attract so many hill billies?

That was already the standing primary demographic.
Remember the 80s/90s love for Ninjitsu?
Blood Sport was made for that demographic.
Ninja movies were made for that demographic.
When Black Belt magazine was on top of its game and was moving loads and loads of jammies and ninja stars through their mail order services and folks bought how-tos from Ashida Kim and Count Dante, who do you think did that buying?
I'll tell you, it was not the suits of wallstreet buying ninja costumes, silly swords for their walls, or throwing stars for...um....whatever TF a grown ass man in the 80s or 90s needs a ****ing shuriken for...Comment

This made me laugh thinking about some exec at Goldman-Sachs with a ninja sword and some nunchucks on the wall of his Manhattan office. That was already the standing primary demographic.

Its changing. Rapidly. In fact, I think the participation demography and the audience demography for MMA are vastly different. I'm in the UK and the biggest gyms in my city are like 80%+ black and asian. The sport is going to have a major culture shift, tbh its kinda happening already. Guys like Khabib, Khazmat, Ngannou and Adesanya have given it a lot more global appeal.
Also, you're conflating the UFC audience with the MMA audience. They're actually vastly different. Promotions like Pride were leagues different than what the UFC is offering, in fact the problem with the UFC is that it still has a very American centric format which serves as a sort of hybrid between NFL and WWE. Both sports cater heavily to the middle American market....however even those have changed vastly.
Ironically, its boxing that continues to prove its longevity and ability to capture new audiences. I think this is because, rather strangely, despite its relative infancy, MMA seems to have become way more insecure about "freakshow"/"celebrity" fights. Like it or not bouts like MayMac and the recent shenanigans of Jake Paul are bringing massive and diverse eyes to the sport.Last edited by KingGilgamesh; 04-28-2022, 09:30 AM.Comment

MMA is an insecure sport in general. Look at their biggest star Usman BEG Canelo for a payday. Canelo just told that grown azz man no, not now. That he’s busy building his legacy. How embarrassing. Also, don’t forget when McGregor BEGGED Mayweather for a payday. Its changing. Rapidly. In fact, I think the participation demography and the audience demography for MMA are vastly different.
