Absolutely. He wanted to be loved and adorned like a Sugar Ray Leonard, Ali, or De La Hoya. But he was never viewed as one of America's darlings. This was the main reason he retired the first time. But then.....He needed money and decided to come back. He embraced a new persona, and started to run with it. And then he started to chase that "O".
He changed his fighting style (almost purely defensive), and started to handpick his opponents....and he did "A" hole things. He really became an unlikeable figure. But he gained millions, and became a household name in the process.
