Whyte would have went flying anyway with the force of the push. Fury did it so Whyte couldn't come back with the left hook in case he either missed the uppercut, or it didn't have any effect. But the punch didn't need to land for him to go over. It was illegal. It was a hard push. You're actually not allowed to do that.

Whyte had momentum against AJ and was undefeated. Whyte had been out of the ring for a year and not long coming from a stoppage loss. Then you add in the fact that Whyte's chin was much, much better back then. Not forgetting that it was much more pleasing on the eye. Fury, for all his bluster about smashing him, didn't do all that much other than stay ahead slightly by landing 2 or 3 more punches than Whyte to shade the rounds. It was boring to say the least. AJ threw more punches in 1 minute in that fight than Fury was willing to against Whyte in the whole fight.

Shyte's punch resistance is the only thing better about the version that fought AJ.
