Floyd Mayweather was extremely lucky against Ricky Hatton

I watched again too though and Cortez was no doubt influenced by something Floyd's camp said. Because he jumped on Hatton immediately for everything, and he did nothing to Floyd. So I'll give him that. Still it wasn't the reason he lost the fight.

I actually thought Floyd was a little too conservative early and should have opened up more. Ricky's quick movement made him uncomfortable early on.
Key factor - referee.

Not comparing him to JMM at all, just pointing out the overall ****ty way that fight was handled.
Maybe Ricky would've lost anyway, but Cortez sure as hell made sure he would help Floyd.

the ref was crucial in this fight and Floyd got a gift referee in his home town, it was a farkin disgrace.
Hatton was ahead on 6 rounds, flyd's tap tap tap wasn't doing ****, the only big shots floyd got in was when the ref was breaking them up.
AS I say, a disgraceful refereeing performance, a real horror show from Joe Cortez.
In the next fight between Hopkin and Calzaghe he did every thing he could to keep hopkin in the fight
fucc him, fat yank cnut
Exactly. I hadn't seen the fight since 07' but upon seeing it again you realize how close a fight it was.
A lot of people in here must've forgot and maybe need to watch it again.
Floyd looked extremely vulnerable until he landed the lucky punch in the 9th.
Keep in mind, Floyd was trying that punch all night and failed. Stepping away and hoping a hook lands isn't an impressive k.o.
He just happened to connect with it that particular time.
All you guys who don't like this thread can lick my balls.
Thats right.

balls he would, he attempted to in the 6th and ended up having to run away and dive out of the ring. Floyd ain't no brawler or fighter, he's a boxer. A tap tap tap backfoot specialist. Ref kept Hatton off him and Floyd was home and dry.
Key factor - referee.

After six I had it 4-2 Hatton.
But the real reason Ricky lost is clearly Joe Cortez's sheer incompetence. Not only in the fact that he allowed Floyd to choke Ricky with elbows on the inside, but for failing to see that it was Floyd, not Ricky, doing all the holding.
The point deduction in the 6th was the turning tide, it was here that Ricky's spirit was taken from him upon realizing that Joe was going to screw him.
Mayweather was getting caught easily by left hooks and jabs and was clearly bothered with the pressure.
Joe Cortez needs to be banned from the sport.
What a piece of **** ref.
JMM is gonna wax that ass this Saturday.
ricky hatton winning rounds just shows you how flawed a fighter pbf is... 'best in the sport defense' my ass...
if marquez is not too uncomfortable with teh weight, he will expose the overated bum

Mayweather basically outclassed Hatton throughout the fight.
Cortez was quick to break up the wrestling in the early going, but when he let them fight in the clinch, Mayweather got the better of it. He out dirtied-Hatton with his own tricks, dug in repeated short right uppercuts to Hatton's body when his other arm was locked up, and landed the better shots when breaking out of a clinch. Hatton made Mayweather work harder than usual, but wasn't landing the clean shots, he was eating the majority of them. Then Mayweather turned up the pace in round 8 and it was just a matter of time until then.
Hatton repeatedly jumped in with lead left hooks throughout the fight. It wasn't a matter of being desperate or frustrated because of the point deduction, because he was doing that well before he got a point deducted. Manny Steward pointed it out early, round 3 I think, about the check hook Mayweather was landing when Hatton was coming in with his own leaaping hook. It worked against Maussa but he paid dearly for it against Mayweather and Pacquiao, and also got rocked by Lazcano for it.
I'm glad Pacquiao's wasting of Hatton ruined any chances of a Mayweather-Hatton rematch, because that would've been one worthless rematch. Mayweather could beat his ****, his baby mama, and Hatton at the same time. It was an outclassing, plain and simple.
