Comments Thread For: Ugas: Spence Showed Why He Belongs On Pound-for-Pound List, He Is A Great Champion

Yordenis Ugas holds his head up as he comes to grips with his latest setback. The 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist and former WBA welterweight titlist continues to recover from injuries sustained in a tenth-round stoppage loss to Errol Spence Jr. Their three-belt unification bout ended when the ringside physician deemed Ugas (27-5, 12KOs) unfit to continue due to his right eye being swollen shut, with Spence (28-0, 22KOs) going on to win the WBA belt along with defending his WBC/IBF titles April 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Class act. Not out here making excuses or starting conspiracy theories. Just going to get healthy and get back in the gym.

Always thought that Ugas was a classy dedicated fighter and he is. He is still a player in the division and can have other high profile match ups.

His fans are insufferable but he more than makes up for that because he is a true man of honor.

I respect the hell out of this guy and am gonna watch every fight of his from now on.

Ugas is what we really all want in a fighter. Doesn't talk too much and wants to fight the best. Doesn't make excuses either, just tucks his head and grind. Hopefully he has a few more fights at high level. Get better and hopefully we see you soon.

All class, mad respect to the man. He tried his best and fell short against one of the best in the game. He had his moments and showed he is a top tier Welter. Wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back soon. Danny Garcia would be a good comeback opponent but that coward doesn't want to take another L, just wants another cherry at this point.

I think he is going to need a pretty long break. He took a lot of punishment, especially in the last three or four rounds. When Brook had his orbital fracture vs GGG, his team took him out before it was going to get ugly. Ugas ended up fighting from the 7th round on with a broken face and just kept taking shot after shot. I wouldn't fight again until 2023 and then take on a bottom top 10-15 WW before getting back with the top guys.

Ugas vs DSG is a nice shout though, even fight on paper. But the fight may be a bit boring with both just waiting to counter the other.

I am so happy that this kid will make a full recovery without any surgery done to his orbital bone. He should be able to resume his career without any complications. That's very good news. He's such a nice guy and I am glad to hear that he wasn't seriously hurt.
