Floyd Mayweather Says He’d “Love To Sign Terence Crawford”
April 19, 2022 l Add comment l by James Slater

Like Floyd Mayweather before him, Terence Crawford was promoted by Top Rank before he fell out with Bob Arum (“Bud” accusing Arum of racism) and became a free agent. Now, Mayweather the promoter says he’d “love to sign” Crawford and get him the big money and the big fights he deserves. Speaking with Fight Hype, “Money” said he and Crawford have each other’s phone numbers and that they have been in touch.

Currently, we fans are hoping to see Crawford get it on with rival welterweight champ Errol Spence in what could be the biggest, most important fight of the year. Crawford is a free agent, while Spence is with Al Haymon. Mayweather has a good relationship with Haymon and he always has, so as far as making a Crawford-Spence duel, Crawford signing with Floyd would not hurt at all.

“I’ve always wanted the best for Terence Crawford, always,” Mayweather said. “And we spoke on numerous occasions and we got each other phone number and hopefully everything plays out like it should. And of course I would love to sign Terence Crawford, I would love to sign Terence Crawford. And I talked about getting Terence Crawford the fights that he wants.”

The fight Crawford wants now is the fight with Spence, as the WBO ruler made clear when responding to Spence’s call out on Saturday, this after Spence had looked great in halting Yordenis Ugas to pick up another welterweight belt. Maybe Crawford will elect to work with Mayweather, maybe he will decide to stay where he is, as a free agent. We will have to wait and see how things develop.

But if the big fights are made, we fight fans will be happy. It doesn’t really matter who makes the big fights, just as long as they do get made. A Crawford-Spence fights simply HAS to happen, and soon. Crawford turns 35 this year, while Spence turns 33 this year. These two must fight while they are still at their best, and are unbeaten.

Maybe Mayweather is the man who can prove instrumental in making the fight happen.

Boxing is so archaic. It makes zero sense to feed this kid to Spence at this point in his career.

I couldn't think of anything worse for the best fight in the sport than having Floyd stick his nose in making the whole thing about him.

Stanionis would get destroyed in 3 rounds by Spence anyway.

He's not even ready for guys like Thurman or Danny G.

You can only wish, but I honestly doubt it. I remember reading an article shortly after Mayweather-Canelo which had a STACKEDDDD undercard (DSG-Matthysse was the co main) the article stated that analysis found undercard bouts did very lil to the ppv buy rate, so giving dsg-matthysse over $2mil combined was a waste of $. After that night, I don’t recall another big spending undercard for any ppv card.

I think Thurman needs to prove his value! He lost to Old Man Pacquiao, and then couldn't finish a guy who was coming off a KO @ 140! Stanionis vs. Thurman would be a great test for both to prove they deserve a shot at the winner of Spence Jr. vs. Crawford, and that makes it a perfect co-main event for that card!

JakeNDabox keeps ignoring the co promotion between PBC and Probellum. Stanionis is on the PBC website under their promoted fighters for Pete’s sake.
