No it’s f***ing ******. Boxing’s a brutal sport. Always has been, always will be. If you’re worried about getting hurt don’t box, cause there’s no way around it.

I think hws should use 8 oz gloves and everything under 154 should use 6 oz. Some idiot in a high position thinks that bigger gloves protect fighters when in reality, it allows fighters to take more of a beating. Most brain damage is done in sparring instead of in the ring for 30 or 36 minutes. Taking a beating in headgear and 16 oz gloves for years is far more detrimental to your health than a 36 minute fight with 10 oz gloves.

At the end of the day getting punched in the face constantly isnt healthy, it is what it is. As an adult you have the personal responsibility to decide if the risks outweigh the potential rewards and the enjoyment you get out of doing it. Same with any sport that gets put in the firing line for being dangerous.

A common misconception is that headgear absorbs blows, and that punches hurt less. It does not. Headgear is to protect against headbutts and cuts. In fact, when people wear headgear they don’t know the above information and actually get careless about defending themselves and end up getting worse head injuries than some pro boxers.

In reality, the less protection, the less effective punches are. It’s why in UFC, since its inception in 1993 to 2022, has had 0 deaths. In the same span, iirc, pro boxing has had 39 casualties. So when MMA fans make fun of boxing and their “pillow gloves”, it’s funny to me because boxers are able to punch harder, consistently, and throw more because their hands are protected. This leads to more concussions, more brain injuries, and more deaths.

I am okay with headgear as long as boxing commissions, coaches, promoters stress that headgear will only protect from cuts and headbutts and not the power of blows. To still protect yourself as if you don’t have it.
