What non-HW black fighter reached superstardom????

Roy Jones Jr was highly athletic in his prime and did things I never seen in the ring and didn't get the love and the fame that he should have.

Pernell Whitaker also was another fighter who didn't get the fame he deserved for all the marvelous things he accomplished.

SRL is the only non HW fighter to gain superstardom in my lifetime.

Despite black fighters being the best or among the best in the sport since the damn near conception of the sport.....for many years. Why hasn't a black non HW fighter got true Superstardom?

Just maybe Floyd ain't that crazy!!!!!

And if i am wrong....please correct me and name the black fighter who was the best in sport and had the Superstardom and carried the sport.

ok what non HW especially recently has reached superstardom besides maybe Oscar.
    Jones Jr, Hopkins, Whitaker.
They might not be superstars, but they are the biggest boxers in the sport when they were fighting right?
What white guy or other type was just as big?

To be real for a second --- There is always an underlying residue of discrimination present in sports. Boxing is rooted in discrimination and has had a long history of bias. Research the history of Joe Lewis, Jack Johnson etc... These guys were unbeatable in the ring - So, the power's that be sought to bring them down outside of the ring. All motivated by racial overtones that were prevalent at that time and era.

That being stated - there is no excuse to openly promote the race-card as a means to an end in 2009. This isn't the O.J. trial.

No matter how loudly Floyd states half-truths or even truths .. he still will not receive the adulations he believes he deserves. So, no need to go there.

To address the OP question - There have been few non-whites who reached superstardom .... for many reasons ... racial bias, being one of many.

Whoever the public likes and is willing to pay to see will reach stardom it is no more complicated than that. Public demand = stardom.

It's not just boxing he is talking about in other sports. What about vick, bron, kobe, griffey just to name a few. Floyd is a ignorant kid, you can't take the hood out of floyd and he still thinks like that little ****** kid that think it's never his fault but someone elses.

First I just want to clear that I dnt think u can really say "blacks are the best" two of the the best p4p fighters in the world aren't black so it kind of throws that statement out of the water....

Anyway I do agree with you when you say "black fighters dnt get the respect they deserve" This is partly our fault also....Mexican fans stick behind their fighters like they're all family, Blacks must emulate this behaviour......

However theres more.....most boxing sport writers/commentators/CEO's are not black this means that black fighters will always be at the mercy of racism and mistreatment. (This is the MAIN problem)

As long as different colours/races of ppl exist among eachother there will ALWAYS be Racism this is the hard truth and the nature of humans.....

The SAME thing would happen if there was a sport that was run entirely by blacks in a black dominated nation and you had a few "white fighters" they'd most likely get screwed over too.....
