Comments Thread For: John Fury Shoots Down Talk of Tyson Retiring After Whyte Fight

John Fury, father of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has shot down any talk of his son retiring in the aftermath of his upcoming fight. On April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London, Fury will make a mandatory defense against Dillian Whyte.

You wonder if john really knows or its just johns opinion. Hope john is correct. With Josh and Usyk as dance partners, Tyson is lucky. They are names that will elevate him to ALi level. But of course we dont expect Tyson to fight forever, and he deserves to enjoy his money, but he is quite young still for heavyweights and its the business end now.
I mean Wlad, Wilder, Usyk, Josh, that is lookiing like a good and proper resume now. Foreman, liston, Frasier for Ali.

If he did retire i hope he stays retired and happy, boxings a rough ol game & the way promoter's delay & delay & delay it must become frustrating.
I think he's out of contract & like Canelo will go fight by fight a free agent. Show me the money!

He'll probably fight on. There's Usyk and Joshua.

Who else could he fight? His sparring partner Anderson, or is he too green. Someone moving up from light heavyweight or even super middleweight to heavyweight?

Surely not Canelo. I could actually see big tall guys like Ramirez and Benavidez going up to heavyweight, although perhaps they won't move above light heavy.

Remember Roy Jones, but yeah, just had one fight at heavyweight. Floyd Patterson, he did quite well to win a title there but then ran into Liston and Ali.

Thinking outside the box. But certainly, I don't want to see Fury against mma champion Ngannou in a boxing fight.

But there's Dillian Whyte not to be overlooked, although he's going to have to better than ever to have a chance.

He will retire without too much punishment and happy. He can make Ngannou bout after his retirement from "real boxing" for payday. These fights aren't just for Floyd, are they?

If he beats Whyte then I say Usyk/Joshua winner. He will fight Joshua regardless if Joshua beats Usyk or not. If joshua wins the rematch i would expect 2 fights between the Brits. First one for undisputed & the rematch for whatever belts are not vacated. The only way Fury fights Usyk is if he wins the Joshua rematch. Those the only 2 guys I see him fighting. Maybe Joyce but unlikely… Fury is almost done & if he loses to Whyte then I see him possibly hanging it up.

It's not that many years ago that Tyson said he wanted Rocky Marciano's record. However I really can't see him having another 17-18 fights even if goes on for another 8-10 years.

I don't understand ins and outs of boxing but is it possible for fury to fight total bums for rema inder of career to get to 50 wins and 1 draws as his record? I mean say after he beats Josh and usyk he wants to take easy fights

Dillian Whyte, undisputed vs. the winner of Joshua/Usyk, and then a title defense against Joe Joyce. After that, assuming he wins all three, I say retire. There will be nothing more to prove as the level of competition drops to a lower level, or younger guys who have yet to establish themselves. He'll have cleaned out the division and will have established himself as the best heavyweight of his era. It can be argued that Joyce is a bit of a bonus, but he is an undefeated silver medalist, he is another giant in terms of stature, and his power is to be reckoned with. Combined with the fact that he is from the UK, this has the potential for another Wembley fight. If Fury should retire before fighting a fellow Brit like Joyce, I suspect there will always be whispers that he ducked Joyce. But other than these three (four if he also wanted to fight the LOSER of Joshua/Usyk), there is no one else worth his time. But after Whyte, there is still meat on the bone before Fury can walk away with nothing left to prove.

Klitchko, Wilder, Whyte, Joshua, Usyk, and Joyce. If he beats all these guys, that is a hell of a resume.

Tyson Fury is so all over the place that even his own father doesn't believe him. Great boxer though.
