GGG did Steve Rolls him. Rolls, like nearly every other GGG opponent, landed some shots on GGG too. At no point in the Murata fight did I say 'oh man Murata is really taking it to him' - evidence of that maybe is that GGG still outlanded Murata in every round.

Obviously at age 40, he isn't what he was. But the point of the thread was that the success Murata had wasn't really that great, and any success was mainly a result of the pace of the fight, which Canelo-GGG won't be fought at.

If GGG dictates the pace, it will be slightly lower output than that, but again, at GGG's pace.

If Canelo dictates the pace, it will be significantly lower output than Murata GGG or Sergei GGG.

GGG will be vulnerable early; GGG's age combined with Canelo's freshness and youth early on in fights will net-net lean in Canelo's favor.

People on here don't seem to be aware of one of the main rules in boxing - styles make fights. This fight with Murata tells us little about how GGG-Canelo 3 will go. Everything we thought before, is basically the same still.
You might be missing something if you think this fight doesn't give us much to go on as it relates to Canelo vs GGG III. No two fighters are the same and the two Canelo v GGG fights demonstrate that no two fights (even between the same guys) are the same. BUT, those of us who have followed GGG's career know what his attributes are and only his most ardent fan could argue that the 40 year old version is as good as the version from a few years ago. Canelo, on the other hand, is as good or better than he was their last time out. I don't think this means that Canelo walks through him, but I do completely understand why most fans are picking Canelo to win. I personally think its going to be another close, competitive match, or at least I'm hoping for that. I would love to see GGG shock the world and beat Canelo definitively, but I'm not putting money on that outcome.

What this fight tells me is that Canelo must start fast because Golovkin only gets stronger the longer the fight goes.

Agreed...that's how I see it as well.

I think the 2 Canelo-GGG fights were similar enough. Canelo held the ring better in fight 2. But both fights were fairly even through the first 4-5 rounds. And then Canelo kind of dips with his activity level, and GGG picks his up. That is where he won both fights for me. He got on a roll and piled up rounds.

What the fight with Murata showed me, is GGG is going to be more vulnerable early, than he was in fight 2, and he was more vulnerable in fight 2 early, than he was in fight 1 early. If you follow what I'm saying there.

GGG still has a great motor though and still throws lots of hard clean punches throughout. If I had to bet on one outcome, I would bet that Canelo builds a legit early lead this time, and GGG comes back late and it is a true 50/50 type of fight on my card.

That being said, Canelo to me still should be quite decently favored as he has a chance to KO GGG and I don't quite see the same chance for GGG at this point. I think GGG can win a narrow decision. I think Canelo can win a wide-ish decision, narrow decision, and could win via KO.

Not positive it actually happens any time soon but maybe we will find out how it goes.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty solid assessment of things. You have a good eye. I had the first two fights 1-1, with Canelo taking the second narrowly, but cleanly. I watched the first fight a few weeks ago and had it wider than I originally thought for GGG. I think the biggest difference in those fights was the constant forward pressure that GGG applied on Canelo. He fought like the bigger, stronger man and his engine was amazing for the entire fight. Based on what we've seen in his recent fights (Deryv, Murata), I just don't think GGG can fight that way anymore. He may still throw more overall punches than Canelo, but I see Canelo landing the harder, flashier shots. This time, I don't see GGG brushing them off so easily. I hope I'm wrong because I want GGG to pull it out. It's going to a tough fight for both guys.

GGG has slowed a bunch... It took him 4 rounds to find his rhythm... Then it was a masterclass of adapting and tearing Murata appart... Stellar if you ask me ... He's still a thing @ MW at 40... That in itself is an achievement... He's also a gentleman, something we don't see often these days in Boxing...
