Watching GGG-Murata, I don't see how that was a bad performance from GGG

I thought his punch selection, clean punching, and workrate were still very good. Stamina seemed a bit off but not much. Same with punch resistance. Seems to be aging very well for a 40 year old fighter. I'd say line up Canelo 3, then Andrade or Charlo or a top guy or two at 168 and maybe call it a career.

G is my guy but he looked stuck in mud and unsure about how to pull the trigger even on jabs for several rounds. I gave him both fights over Canelo but he’s getting beat up if the third fight actually happens. His great chin worries me because it may be 12 rounds of taking huge shots. He looked like he hated it to the body which is going to be a huge target as well.

He shook off the ring rust and looked better as the fight went on but the first few rounds he looked like an old man. Regardless of how good or bad he looked in this fight though, Canelo is 31 and at the tail end of his prime, GGG was probably already slightly declining by the time of the first fight 5 years ago, and is now 40.

I always liked Golovkin, and I think he won the first Canelo fight. But watching the Murata fight, his jab, his stamina, his (previously moderate) hand speed and his movement overall deteriorated so much that now - for the first time - I wouldn't rule out a TKO (body shots).

Yup , just stated the same thing on another post
Canelo will brutally hurt him to the body
Not sure what these gentlemen watched or saw , GGG looked fughin horrible
His movement is not there , especially fighting on back foot , no speed very predictable actually and his defence became his face
If he doesn’t stay down from body shot , he will be brutally knocked out

I say horrible and it’s harsh , rather say he looked like a 40 year old fighter
After all he stuck and won the fight but Murata is known as Mr give it away , give it away man

Something I noticed recently with ggg is since his mid 30s he doesn't seem to travel well/adjust to time zones I noticed in particular he looked sickly at the Brook weigh in and the recent murata one. Both fights he started slow got hit more than usual. Maybe a strange coincidence just throwing it out there.

Bivol will beat Canelo badly, so GGG will have an easy work.

Bad footwork, snail handspeed, vulnerability against body shots, mediocre defensive skills and got hit a lot, got outboxed in round 3 badly and his chin saved him. Also, lost round 4.

GGG definitely getting older but he is still an elite fighter. In the past, he definitely prolonged fights "for the fans" and really I am wondering how much of the early rounds was really ring rust, and Murata coming in with a completely different game plan versus his usual fights.

On the flip side, for sure, when GGG got hit with that body shot... he was hurt. Again, punch resistance? Ring rust? Not seeing the shot come? or what?

Fortunately, from that point forward, he kept taking the tempo up and went back to controlling the fight.

And of course, we can't take away from Murata... an Olympic champion and a hell of a gas tank who was never stopped before.

Murata pushed a fast pace vs GGG, one that Canelo likely won't push, or won't want to fight at. Derevy took notes from Canelo in fight 2, and tried to push GGG back, and did so with great workrate. Murata tried to do the same. But he wasn't able to do as much damage to GGG, and he wasn't able to take GGG's shots as well as Derevy.

Canelo wasn't able to push the pace that Derevy set, and for me that is why Derevy did better vs GGG than Canelo in either fight. Pushing pace vs a volume puncher who lands hard and clean with most of his shots like GGG, who has a great workrate and stamina himself, is extremely dangerous. Canelo knows that and will likely not fight that way.

GGG still probably outlanded Murata in every round, and besides rounds 2 and 3, which were close, I didn't see Murata having a real claim to any other round.
                      - - Be like U was born yesterday.

I as a former Golovkin fan struggled to find a single round that he would've won.

36 yr old Murata 2 years inactive because of Corona prob in Japan kept him on the back foot for much if most of the fight.

When Canelo went on the back foot in the first fight, he wasn't getting knocked back, he was just keeping Golovkin from setting up his feet for punching while walking him into counter punches. Golovkin was getting knocked back and looked bewildered, like he didn't know where he was at times.

This was likely the last bout overseen by the now bankrupt Japanese boxing commish and it showed in the scoring that had Golovkin ahead wide. I have no prob with the stoppage other than 1. After getting knocked sideways and buckled, Murata had enough left to duck the left hook finisher, but not enough strength to prevent hitting the floor. 2. Flying towel. Never seen that in a Japanese fight much less a high profile one.

Canelo gets ZER00000000 credit for fighting and beating Golovkin yet again, and moreover if he knocks him out, it makes Canelo the ultimate heel. Canelo is already near the point of retirement having accomplished most everything he could possibly dream of, so he can make his money and retire in peace knowing he did his best to make boxing the sport of Kings, paupers, and n'er do wells as is the history of boxing.
