Comments Thread For: Canelo Turned Down Catchweight and Rehydration Options for Bivol Says Hearn

Canelo Alvarez apparently wants to make sure his potential victory over Dmitry Bivol will be free of any caveats. According to Alvarez's promoter Eddie Hearn, the Mexican superstar and current undisputed 168-pound champion, rebuffed the idea of meeting Russia's Bivol at a catchweight for their scheduled 12-round, light heavyweight bout May 7 in Las Vegas for Bivol's 175-pound WBA title.

“No. Because he doesn’t feel that’s what greats do.”
Wonder why the change of heart considering the fact that he’s the guy who has asked for more catchweight fights and rehydration clauses than probably anyone ever in boxing. This includes all of his fights at 155, his absurd catchweight of 162.5 against Chavez jr and his rehydration clauses for his fights with Jacobs, Fielding and Kovalev.

Whether you like Canelo or not, you surely have to respect this, that he doesn't put in clauses he could actually enforce.

He could make things more difficult for Bivol, with the weight and other things, but he didn't.

Where was this when Alvaroids was draining his opponents to 155, his absurd catchweight of 162.5 against Chavez jr and his rehydration clauses for his fights with Jacobs, Fielding and Kovalev?

Rigged cards, PEDS, wack gym waivers, tainted meat, tea, and unknown illnesses from a gym. Non-disclosure means no one discloses anything before a fight even the promoters. Scorecards were signed and Bivol's check was deposited already. Like I said, how do you fight through the power of Joe Smith and Sullivan Barrera but get walked down by a midget with a bum knee who wouldn't stop mini-Cotto, a washed-up Angulo who light punching Lara broke up and idiot Chavez Jr who got his legs stiffen like a board vs a legit 175 lb man b/c weight classes have always mattered in boxing but not for the tainted meat midget who continues to go up in weight but stays at cut and diesel as Mr Olympic Dorian Yates while his training gym is right next door to the best supply chain in North America but they got waviers

                Canelo has become overconfident.

Don’t get me wrong, I think this is the ONLY way for a fighter to legitimately fight for a title but he is underestimating Bivol.

If the odds hold at about 3-1/2 to 1, I think I’ll put down a few hundred on the Russian.

Put your house on the Russian. We'll set up a gofundme for you.

There is a reason why he wanted no part of beterbiev. Bivol is a small lhw to begin with and he does not have enough power to keep him honest. Believe me, they did their research and would not be fighting bivol if they knew he would be a threat.

Clenelo moves from 154 to 175 and doubles his power? Give me a break.
