That was the combat sport I started watching with my father in the 90s. MMA never appealed to me like boxing, although I do like it.

While I am well aware that MMA consists of many styles and takes high levels of skills to really be the best: the best, most scariest, biggest fighters can lose against the worst. MMA also looks like street fighting in the sense that you essentially win at all costs with very minimal rules. This is what leads to a seemingly bad fighter beating the best wrestler there.

Imagine someone as big, strong and technically talented at wrestling like Brock Lesnar, losing a fight? Well it happened, multiple times.

In boxing, it’s technically one style, just punching. You score only one way basically: you need to punch your opponent. That’s it. No kicking, no wrestling, no slamming. Who is the best at punching with a massive amount of rules? Boxers can also punch harder because their hands are more protected, which leads to the brutal KO’s that in MMA you can see from kicks and knees.

With that said, I enjoy MMA too. Not as much as boxing, but I do enjoy it. I watch it here and there. I am a very casual MMA fan.

Not only can they punch harder, but I honestly think they just do. It’s all they practice. Plus the hand wraps and knuckle pads push against the glove from the inside, making it VERY firm. It’s almost like a little brick. Plus, the gloves cover a bigger hit area. I have been hit by a punch in MMA gloves and I’ve been hit by 8oz Cleto Reyes. The Cleto Reyes hurt more. Much more.

Bellator constantly has tournaments every year. You don't have 7 undefeated fighters in the top 10 of any UFC or Bellator weight class. That's never happened and never will happen. Put your fandom and love aside for your favorite boxers and stop defending their BS. Now since Mayer won on saturday, Baumgardner just gave an interview talking about she's the A-side as it seems she takes 5-10 picks every week of those worthless WBC/IBO belts. How can you defend this nonsense? 7 goddamn belts per weight class and everyone argues over ppv numbers and who got the most instagram followres to get out of fights..
What fights in UFC? Or MMA?

See you’re missing the point, UFC cannot be compared to boxing because one is a singular organisation whilst the other is a sport consisting of countless organisations.

Bro, there’s been countless fights we never got in MMA. Brock-Fedor, Fedor-Couture, Loads of Fedor matchups so I won’t list them all, Couture-Cro Cop, Silva-GSP, Jones-Ngannou, Khabib-Ferguson, (I’ll give them a pass on that one) Dodson-Benavidez (a fight UFC refused to book) Rousey-Cyborg, Aldo-Pettis. There’s so many…

I’m not defending any of the bullsh** in boxing but this idea these same problems aren’t prevalent in MMA is laughable.

I don't know why you would even list Ferguson vs Khabib.. you KNOW why that didn't happen. It was actually scheduled lol. Both guys wanted it. Jones has never had a fight at hw and he has his own personal issues keeping him out of the octagon. I hope you're not trying to say that Ngannou is afraid of Jones. Jones last fight was like 2 years ago. Rousey/Cyborg was a case of Rousey being afraid. They were in the same weight class in Strikeforce(that Rousey had competed in the olypics) and she cut down to BW to get away from Cyborg as she became a top contender. I'll never forget her sitting ringside as Cyborg destroyed that Asian lady and immediately following, she went down to BW. Yes there are fights in mma that haaven't happened, but more often than not, boxing in 17 weight classes and 7 belts per weight class, has more that haven't and won't happen. You can't even compare the numbers. Just the late 90s alone We didn't see any of the welterweights fight each other as they all waited for the de la hoya paycheck (quartey, trinidad, whitaker). Don king kept Tito from sweet pea until he got old and wanted no parts of Quartey. And then there was 160 with hopkins, joppy, and HOlmes that Don King milked the public for 5 years until he brought Tito up and had the tournament.

I literally said I’ll give them a pass. I gave you way more than the five you asked for anyway.

Both Jones and Ngannou want the fight. UFC won’t pay them.

The point remains the same MMA shares many of the same problems boxing has.

I agree with your overall point (upsets etc) but to be fair, in Brocks case, he just lost to more skilled, well rounded fighters. He probably loses to Carwin most nights too.

Forgot to mention that 8oz boxing gloves hurt a lot more than MMA gloves.

Cultural thing here... I'm in my late 50's and MMA wasn't as much advertised in my youth... Found Boxing appealing in my teens from local Saturday afternoon cards and I went to the Leonard\Duran in 1980 as my first major fight ... MMA only really got me when GSP started making noise in the 2000's... I still prefer Boxing as a sport though... IDK, I might be biased...

Yeah Brock was an overachiever 100%. People forget he was branded a joke when he first crossed over, especially after the Mir loss. He proved A LOT of people wrong during his time in UFC.
