I dont care if MMA have better matchups. I simply do not like grappling, wrestling, sprawling and all that sht. It's extremely boring and non spontaneous.

Art of Boxing floats my boat straight up. Ive been into Boxing hardcore for the past 25+ years and you can never learn enough. There are always new things to pick up and it's always a learning process.

As soon as they get on the ground I'm out.

It's the butt-sniffing that always ruins it for me.

Now that I think about it, that GP had the Sakuraba/Royce fight as well didnt it? all the people that dont like grappling would definitely not want to see that one

Most MMA fighters ain't experts in a style. They try to fight in every style and are mediocre in all of them. This looks funny. Also, most eye catching MMA fights are based on striking and boxing. Do the math. Boxing is elite sport.

Technically theres some truth to that, but I think the "jack of all trades" stuff really doesnt give them anywhere near enough credit for how skilled they actually are. There is something to be said for being that adaptable and dynamic as a fighter, and for being able to integrate everything together smoothly. Plus at this point all the various styles that go into MMA have been adjusted and fined tuned specifically for the nuances of an MMA environment so it becomes its own thing to an extent.

Those striking based MMA fights are nothing like a boxing match though.

I prefer striking but I think the best MMA fights are the ones where all the different facets get showcased in one fight. In one 5 rounder you could potentially see wild brawling, nasty chopping leg kicks, spinning shyt, flying knees, slams, someone getting elbowed and punched to a bloody pulp on the ground, frantic scrambles, near miss submission attempts and reversals etc etc.

Oh yeah, that was bad. I don't know what they were thinking booking a match like that. Lol, I guess they were expecting a quicker finish that never came.

That fight was worse and even more ridiculous than Gracie vs. Shamrock II at UFC 5.

I've seen too many MMA fights where they are wrapped around one another like a pair of snakes, trying to gain the upper hand. I've never had a big interest in that style of fighting. I find it more entertaining to have two boxers in the ring standing on their feet and demonstrating their skills, with an emphasis on offensive minded fighters who come to fight.

Its funny because its often looked at as a classic. I get why in some ways, it was probably the most iconic grappling based MMA fight ever, and the spectacle, the white hot Japanese crowd, the whole Gracie hunter backstory etc. But man, like 2 ****ing hours or whatever it was with tons of stalling, its not a fight I feel the need to revisit.

I'm trying to think of some good grappling heavy MMA fights. The first Anderson/Chael fight was pretty great.

Perfect example tonight. That UFC card is a triple main event pretty much, and outside of that theres some other worthwhile stuff as well, and thats even after two pretty good fights got cancelled.

I can't wait for tonight. Although I think the 3 favourites will win and can't really see any upsets
