Nietes defeated Ioka via SD in 2018... Can Ioka get revenge in the rematch?

Donnie is shot to pieces. He got handed a gift draw in a fight where he didn't know how many rounds it was supposed to be last time out.

I don't know how much Ioka has left in the thank either, though. I think Choco and Estrada are both much, much better than these two guys at this point in time.

Two great but faded champions fight to a draw. BOOK IT!

Seriously though. Japan should be proud of how unbiased they're judging usually is, but I can see some finagling so Nietes doesn't have a SEVENTH draw on his record and to just slightly give the edge to Ioka.

Can these 2 superfly greats show that they still have something left? Choco showed it few weeks ago...

Ioka gets revenge here. Nietes showed his age last time out.

Still a great fight between 2 legends, think Ioka takes it this time. Hopefully the winner ends up in a unification, loser probably rides off into the sunset

First of all, I dont find this as welcoming news to be honest. These two are always on the outside-looking-in at the top champions at 115. Kazuto Ioka and Donnie Nietes already had a go and had the chance of doing it again much sooner than now, this is even more disappointing considering that both could of fought Roman Gonzalez -- who needs a solid opponent while Estrada and Franco solidify the WBA.

I had Kazuto Ioka winning their first encounter. However, it was a pretty close fight ; lately neither Ioka or Nietes looked like top five Superfly-weights, they both arguably lost to Rodriguez jr. and Norbelto Jimenez. If I had to pick I go with Ioka due to Nietes advance age.

Nietes has never really wanted that smoke with Chocolatito IMO, even going back to the days were they both held titles at 105-108. Always felt he was just content staying in the Philippines and racking up the defences whilst Gonzalez was travelling to America, Mexico and Japan taking names.

I was pleasantly surprised that Donnie Nietes stepped up against Kazuto Ioka in 2018, I expected the winner to go and face the other notable names at 115.

When Donnie won, I was even more hopeful that he would continue to face top level competition and engage in unifications, however he vacated the WBO superflyweight strap never making a single defense, avoiding a rematch with Aston Policte, only to repeat this habit of swerving rematches with Kazuto Ioka, and the pattern is seen again recently vs. Norbelto Jimenez in Dubai on Probellum.

Donnie Nietes vacates WBO super flyweight title to pursue bigger fights

“After thinking hard about it for a long time, I have decided to vacate my WBO super flyweight belt, I feel in my heart that there is no point to do the rematch with Aston Palicte after the controversial draw,” said Nietes in a statement.

With Nietes vacating his title, he can choose to fight the other champions Khalid Yafai, who owns the WBA belt, and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, who holds the WBC and Ring Magazine titles.

Nietes, though, will have to face fellow Filipino Jerwin Ancajas if he wants the IBF World super flyweight title.
