No one cares about those laughable title defenses.
The Dominic Wade win will go down in history. Shortly before he won his title he also beat Mikhail Makarov, a beast who was 10-0 at the time. It was billed as GGG vs MMM. They battled it out at Sparkassen-Arena, Kiel, and against all odds, Golovkin scored a 2nd round knockout win. Makarov was never the same again, returning 5 years later to win one more fight, ending his career 11-1. Makarov of course will still make the Hall of Fame, but the way he lost, and that he was never the same again means that he will not be remembered as an ATG. Nash out.

      I stand corrected.
It wasn't GGGeezer who was ducking entire divs.
It was the divs ducking him !

He's turning 40 right before Murata fight. Anything he does at this point in time is bonus. Fighters who are successful at this age are extremely rare. Vast majority of them start losing to journeymen at this stage - and Murata is no journeyman.

If you think about boxers who found some degree of success after turning 40, you're coming across ATGs. Hopkins, Foreman, SRR, Pacman.

I'm a fan of both guys. GGG won the first fight with Canelo. Period, end of sentence. Anyone who has gone back and watched that fight with a modicum of impartiality understands that. It's a shame he was robbed of that moment.

That being said, Canelo won the second fight and GGG has slipped in the intervening time while Canelo has gotten better. I've really been hoping there wouldn't be a third fight because I believe GGG will likely lose by a significant margin (in not get KO'd) and it will taint the narrative of his career. The only reason I'm happy this fight is slated to happen is for GGG to get paid because when he was dominant he had to take smaller paydays because guys like Sturm, Martinez and Cotto ducked him.

He was a HBO hype job made to look like some "monster", but he is a nothing more than a mouse.
You cite that he arguably lost to Jacobs & Derevyachenko, yet both his fights with Canelo were closer on the official cards. However you cite that he never could beat Canelo. Seems like a bit of hypocrisy, or at the very least agenda pushing. Would you care to further explain or justify?

Before we write GGG off, let's see how this fight with Murata goes. Certainly, at 40, his reflexes and speed are going to be diminished. But, his experience, power, timing, and technique are still there and are going to be more important. We should have a good idea of what GGG has left after this fight.

GGG is ancient in a boxing ring and I'm honestly not sure he wins in Japan.
I agree, I think there's a good chance Golovkin will struggle with Murata, who really isn't that good. But it's a lot of money for the retirement fund. Then, providing canelo agrees to providing that final big payday, golovkin will happily take a beating. He'll, he's already talking like there was never any bad feeling - at least from him.

His closure will be that retirement check he cashes before taking another L to Canelo.
He missed his opportunity to cement his legacy in 2018.
