Cotto was the one who decided their weight. Btw, besides not moving up, GGG also said he'd move down but backtracked on that too. He wanted all the hype when he had no intention of following through.
Bringing up Jacobs is a perfect example of the ridiculous hypocrisy from GGG fans: In both GGG-Jacobs and Canelo-Jacobs there was a 10lb morning check-in in place, and in both fights Jacobs blew it. However, GGG fanboys lost their minds in his scenario calling Jacobs a weight bully and talking about poor GGG having to face a bigger middleweight, yet they had the complete opposite take in Canelo's scenario, saying 10lb checkins should only apply to GGG's opponents. Straight comedy.
You doubled down on the backwards logic with Kovalev: Again, GGG fans say it was unfair for Jacobs to rehydrate over 10lbs vs GGG at middleweight, yet they criticize Canelo who was jumping up 2 divisions for Kovalev. The claim that he wouldn't give him more time is more straight BS. Not only did he not have a problem with Kovalev having more time, he had pushed to step in for Yarde, but Kovalev didn't get it done on his end. And it was DAZN NOT Canelo who selected the fight date because they wanted it to fall on a separate billing cycle from Joshua-Ruiz II:
The situation wasn't even optimal time from Canelo's end because until Kovalev secured the Yarde win, it was up in the air whether he'd be fighting at 175 or stay at 160. He continued lining up bigger champs, becoming 168 undisputed as the smallest man in the division. Upcoming Bivol repeatedly said he'd be willing move down to 168, but nope, Canelo is moving to his division while talking about the possibility of 175 undisputed. GGG would **** himself thinking about those risks.
And you somehow take a picture of him training to move up in weight talking about how he looks bulky in one angle and slimmer in another angle. Every single aspect of his scenario pointed to contamination including the clean follicle test showing no elevated substances had been present in his system. It would have never been classified as a violation today with WADA acknowledging their policy was flawed for not having a contamination threshold. He's one of the few fighters consistently testing for years in a sport where many others are not only NOT meeting those same standards, they're not submitting to testing period. Even Abel said he considered Canelo vindicated. No doubt history will be kind to him on the issue especially given the complete hypocrisy in the sport:
As for GGG, he lost any high ground on the issue when he went out of his way to hire the biggest criminal PED dealers in US sports, Victor Conte and Remi Korchemny, during a time when he was not testing:Golovkin-Conte-GGG.jpg
So to summarize, GGG fans have plenty of double standards, hypocrisy and phony narratives, you even weirdly keep talking about his dong-- and yet the fact remains comfort zone GGG never took those kinds of risks-- and yes, even turned down the trilogy 2 years ago saying they'd rather continue fighting stiffs like he doesn't have enough of them already.
Side note: the problem with a fighter being happy to coast vs scrubs and make his legacy mostly about one fighter, is that if he loses, it's going to be all the more damaging to his career. Hyped up favorite GGG was already beaten at his own game by Canelo, and if he takes a second loss in their trilogy it's going to be a huge blow. Even after his Derevyanchenko fight, GGG fanboy Kellerman called for a reassessment saying his career didn't deliver on all the hype.
With regards to GGG vs Jacobs the 10lb morning check-in was part of the IBF's rules - Jacobs tactically chose not to fight for the IBF title knowing full well that Golovkin would want to defend the title so while G weighed 170lbs on fight night Jacobs entered the ring technically as a cruiserweight (more than 175lbs). Shortly after this fight the IBF changed their rules so that same day weigh-ins were not required in unification fights. With that set there was absolutely no need to make a 10lb morning check-in - Canelo should've fought Jacobs at his natural weight on the day but he obviously felt insecure about something hence the need for clause... If we're looking at the size & weight of Jacobs in both the GGG and Canelo fights he was clearly bigger and heavier in the Golovkin fight because Golden Boy set financial penalties for every pound he went over at $250000 (he weighed in 173.6lbs) so he wanted to come in heavier than Canelo but not to pay too much in the way of penalties knowing full well without a KO he was not getting the decision. In the GGG fight there was nothing to stop how much excess weight Jacobs piled on if not fighting for the IBF but yet Gennady STILL DROPPED HIM - Canelo didn't even buzz him once in what was quite frankly a very uneventful fight.
So Canelo took a risk and went up to 175lb to fight Kovalev did he? I feel like I'm repeating myself again - if he was taking such a risk then why did he slap a rehydration clause on a 36 year old man in A TITLE FIGHT ffs. Kovalev was the lowest hanging fruit at 175lb for a number of reasons: he was 36 years old, had just come off an absolute war against war with Yarde where he nearly got KO'd in round 8, he was a drinker outside of the ring and he had legal issues ongoing for attacking a woman so his focus was not fully on the job at hand, he pretty much just needed the purse. I also have a plausible conspiracy theory that there was a no knockout clause in the contract for Kovalev because he didn't even try, even his usual power jabs were more of the pitty-pat variety. It wasn't as if Canelo was doing anything special to make the man with the longer reach keep his hands at home either... Again this was a very uneventful fight again until the 36 year old inevitably got tired!
Everybody knows Canelo is/has been a juicer. You trying to defend him is completely pathetic in all honesty. If you're a cash cow do you not think the "so called authorities" will turn a blind eye providing you keep producing that constant flow of paper. Professional boxing differs from amateur boxing in that it is all about the money and just like many other industries corruption exists. Everybody wants their money from referees to judges, to sanctioning bodies, to broadcasters, to networks, to venues... How do you think these drug testing agencies are funded? Of course they will accept the occasional bung and your boy Alverez is the one they like doing business with. Not to leave out the commissions - the NSAC conveniently slapped Canelo with a 6 month ban for testing dirty for Clenbuterol which ended just in time for him to fight Golovkin in the rematch on Mexican Independence weekend... Do you not think he should've got longer? Most other fighters would've that's a fact! He should've been banned for at least 18-24 months.
Sorry but accept it, your boy Canelo is a cheater. 4 fighters have failed PED tests from Reynoso's gym including Canelo. Do you put that down as a coincidence? Simple maths will tell us the probability of that happening is extremely low so its indicative of some doping programme going on down there (possibly why Ryan Garcia left as he was not prepared to dope in his career). One minute its because of tainted meat, the next minute its because of green tea... Its actually laughably pathetic at this point!SplitSecond likes this.

Was it a risk or was it fair to fight the likes of Lara and Khan in this way? Absolutely not, zero risks taken there but Lara still arguably beat him!

When it's all said and done and people look back on Canelos career it's going to be diminished.

Repeating the same ridiculous takes doesn't make them any more rational. It makes no kind of sense to on one hand call Jacobs a villain for missing the 10lb check in vs GGG then say he's the victim for ALSO missing it vs Canelo lol. Jacobs had made it in his previous fight vs Derevyanchenko, and as IBF champ, he would have been required to make it fighting anyone else, yet he blew it vs Canelo.
And again, with the double standards: GGG fans complain about his middleweight opponents coming in above 10lbs but then criticize Canelo who was jumping up two divisions for Kovalev. Kovalev wasn't a legit champ? He's a borderline hall of famer who remained the #2 fighter in the division coming off of beating 2 undefeated top 10s. Imagine all the praise GGG would get for knocking out a light heavy champ considering all the hype he got for knocking out second tier middleweights.
To put things in perspective, beside himself, the only other welterweight to become champ at 175 was Hearns. ATG Leonard brought Lalonde down a full division to 168. Even some 168 ATGs were reluctant to make the move, Ward also previously brought Dawson down a full division to 168 and his first fight at light heavy was scheduled for a catchweight. Calzaghe contemplated fighting a light heavy champ and wanted a catchweight but ultimately didn't follow through. As for Canelo, not only did he become the first 4 belt 168 undisputed, he's set to face his second 175 champ on top of previously unifying at 154 & 160, but you're trying to knock his generational accomplishments?
Canelo dictates policy to WADA? If he had that kind of influence, he would have been cleared by NSAC as soon as he provided all the evidence necessary to prove his innocence. And again, it's straight hypocrisy on top of hypocrisy to condemn one of the few fighters consistently testing over a situation pointing to contamination (which wouldn't be a violation today) yet find it acceptable for other fighters to not test period with no way of knowing what's in their system despite many of them having their camps run by straight up criminal PED dealers. As for GGG, he somehow proclaimed himself an anti PED warrior then teamed up with the most notorious PED dealers around.
Bottom line: You can spend all day reaching with your narratives as he keeps adding to his legacy and GGG keeps fighting scrubs. You prop up GGG as if he were the example when he represents the lower standard of ambition. A guy who prefers his comfort zone.

When they fought GGG was considered the bigger man naturally. Nelo has achieved so much in the higher weights you almost get feeling Nelo is the bigger man now?
BOth have hard fight in front of them with Bivol and Murata.

Matter of fact, all those guys had far more experience fighting above 155 than Canelo. Haters said it was impossible for him to still make 154 but he proved otherwise vs LSmith. Don't forget there is a big difference between teaming up with a "PED dealer" and being an ACTUAL CONVICTED PED USER. The other fact you need to get your head around is a colossal majority of people think a 35 year old GGG beat Canelo in the first fight while only ONE member from an 18 member press row thought Canelo beat a 36 year old GGG... Everything else you say about taking risks and all that jazz is largely irrelevant because in most peoples eyes, when they fought, Gennady beat him twice!
I'll repeat again - Jacobs vs Canelo was a unification fight and as such the 10lb check-in was waived. So why include it in the contract again? What Jacobs did was irrelevant, the real question is why did Canelo feel insecure about fighting Jacobs at his natural rehydrated weight. Was your boy Canelo taking risks on that occasion? Of course he wasn't.
Both Bivol and Canelo were DAZN fighters in 2019 and that fight could've easily been made - so why the *** would he want to fight Kovalev? Again Kovalev was the lowest hanging fruit at 175lb because of his age, the recent damage he received in the Yarde fight , his outside boozing and the his ongoing legal issues and EVEN THEN he still slapped him with a rehydration clause. That was not taking risks - the fight was not fought on an even playing field and it certainly was no spectacular feat what Canelo did.
With the 155lb catchweights you seem to be missing the point - this was Canelo's optimum weigh in weight where he could cut weight comfortably and rehydrate to a very healthy weight on fight night. Maybe the Cotto fight was a mutual decision but all the rest were done with the thought of benefitting Canelo only, and he certainly rehydrates monstrous amounts overnight. Also yes Canelo did make 154lb again but we all know why... He was ordered to fight GGG as his mandatory after the Khan win but ducked him so with nowhere to go he put his body through hell to make 154 again (where he looked like a skeleton) to fight Liam Smith for the WBO 154lb title!

outstanding post !!
Bullshltkin supporters are just casual fanboys, but Bullshltkin fans who criticize Canelo are just total fkn idiots
they... LITERALLY... would not know a good fighter if he walked up and punched them in the face
Canelo is everything that Golovkin promised to be.... it is hilarious that they choose not to notice

get this...
a few months after totally refusing to negotiate on weight with the 153lb SUPERSTAR Cotto, and with the 155lb SUPERSTAR Canelo... Bullshltkin stated that he was ready, willing, and able, to fight at 154... but nobody will step up... WTF???
you cannot make that shlt up
here is the video of shame...

You'd have to be a casual to complain about his fights like Angulo, Lara and Kirkland at 155 when they were non title fights which are often a pound or two above the division. Matter of fact, all those guys had far more experience fighting above 155 than Canelo. Haters said it was impossible for him to still make 154 but he proved otherwise vs LSmith. And no he never rehydrated 25lbs lol. It was Cotto who determined their weight and it was in place for the benefit of Khan because it was preferable to bringing him up another 5 pounds like GGG did with Brook. Out of all those guys mentioned it was Canelo who moved up the most divisions. GGG was the hypocrite who expected fighters to move up for him while never doing the same on his end.
