  • Comments Thread For: Promoter on Amir Khan: He's Not Gonna Stop Fighting, Whether He Gets Brook Rematch Or Not

Amir Khan appears to have no intention of calling it a career, according to his promoter Ben Shalom. Khan, the former junior welterweight titlist, seemed to have one foot out of the ring following his sixth-round stoppage loss to long-sworn rival Kell Brook on Feb. 19

The biggest problem Amir Khan faces is his own ego as too many knockouts have made him delusional and led him to believe that he's better than he is! In his heyday, Amir Khan was a world class boxer who held two world titles and beat multiple fighters who also held multiple world titles themselves e.g. Alexander, Maidana, Malignaggi, Barrera, Judah etc. However, he was NEVER an elite fighter nor top 10 p4p material at any point during his career (nothing wrong with that) but his huge ego won't let him bow out without being recognised amongst the best of his era.

After getting knocked out by Prescott, he decided to train with Pacquiao who was considered the #1 P4P fighter in the world at that time. When he got demolished by Danny Garcia, he switched to Virgil Hunter who was training #1 P4P fighter Andre Ward and when he got obliterated by Canelo he then went to Bomac who is #1 P4P fighter Bud's trainer until Brook had him doing the chicken dance off a JAB all night long. Also, that's why Khan was chasing the Pacquiao/Mayweather fights so hard during his career and decided to fight Canelo (against the advice of Virgil) and Crawford because had he beaten any one of those fighters, he could've retired safe in the knowledge that he was amongst the elite fighters of his era. However, obviously the Pacquiao/Mayweather fights failed to materialise and he got destroyed by Canelo and quit against Crawford before he got laid out on a stretcher because he simply NEVER was in the conversation amongst boxing's very best fighters at any point during his career.

Lastly, it looks like Khan accepted this fact at the end of his career and decided to fight Brook because if he beat Kell then at least he could say he was the best British boxer of his era but unfortunately for him Special K was always a level above and always had a better chin and greater power plus was a natural welterweight so made quick work of Khan. I thought that Khan handled the defeat graciously given all the trash talk beforehand but now his huge ego has reared it's ugly head again and out come the excuses e.g. he was injured, he only had 10 weeks to train vs. 6 months for Brook etc. I don't know what's going on in that thick skull of his but it seems like he's hellbent on self-destruction and always seems to want the most dangerous fights and won't quit until he either gets the win or is unable to fight anymore. A sad end to a once promising career after winning Silver at the Olympics.

Suppose he can have a few more fights but if it is one a year is it worth trying.

Yeah, but I sense that it's Khan's own ego that makes him want to continue to redeem himself.

“Khan thinks his admittedly underwhelming performance against Brook was a result of the training camp he had”. This has literally been his excuse for every loss from Prescott to Brook. He blames his trainers, his camp, etc. everyone but himself for not being as good as he thought he was.

Khan is already irrelevant and should retire for good.

Where can Khan go with that marzipan chin and legs that have the same stability as a newborn Bambi's?

                    He needs £££

Bad investments, been ripped off in the Middle East, £5m has gone missing from his wedding hall business.

I’m sure he isn’t broke by normal
standards but you can’t invest in businesses and leave them half finished, those kind of things drain your money over time, especially with millions going missing.

Why do you think he avoided Brook for years and then suddenly so keen to fight? Same reason he was basically retired at 32 but now suddenly wants to be a boxer again at 35

That’s why he was on some TV jungle reality show with C list celebrities earning tens of thousands. Khan was supposedly worth £25m, people with that money don’t go on these shows.

He needs the money to recover bad business dealings, being ripped off etc.
