There is nothing to complain about in this fight, had Conlan went strategic after the first round people might complain, if he had slowed his roll at any point some would complain. But there was none of that they both left it in the ring is what they did. Some fights and fighters just turn into something rare in the ring, what I expected was not what showed up in the Ring Sat Night. Killing someone, ruining them for life that is not anything most people care to do for Prize Money to seperate that out, to seperate out the contract date to the day of fight date is an art unto boxing all alone.

Froch always makes me laugh. He’s got a chin as tough as one of those statues on Easter Island, but unfortunately, all the head movement of one too.P to the J likes this.

Caught it from the 7th round on and man was that dramatic. Apparently Conlan was dominating the earlier rounds but from when I started watching it, that's not what was happening. Clutch comeback win from Wood who was determined to get the stoppage one way or another.
Props to both fighters and glad Conlan is fine as he was OUT before falling to the ground and then he went through the ropes. Definitely was a scary sight.

I know little about the two fighters. I've vaguely seen their fights, and they didn't impress me that much, obviously, that I couldn't even recall how they went.
It was apparent to me that it's Wood that I wanted to root for. Conlan's style was too clumsy for my taste. He clearly lacks inside skills. The constant disengaging, clinching, potshotting is not pleasing to watch.

I seen a un-competitive-one-sided beating : by the 5th round fans were BOOING because Leigh Wood would not fight back and Michael Conlan could not stop his hurt overmatched opponent ; finally about the 8th round Leigh Wood showed up to the fight but he was missing most of his punches but gaining some momentum as Conlan was tiring from all the pounding that he delivered in previous rounds. It was only until the 10th that Leigh Wood made some progress and Conlan's fate was sealed as he retreated to back-himself onto the ropes, a round later euro-bum Conlan was on the ground and the rest is history.
This fight reminded me of Carl Froch coming way behind on scores to score a knock-down and forcing a stoppage against Jermain Taylor in the 12th. Compare to Leigh Wood, Carl Froch is a master-boxer, that's how bad he ( Leighwho ) proved to be in his most meaningful win.
NOT FOTY for me.Last edited by NachoMan; 03-14-2022, 05:32 PM.

Few to no people on this forum have ever competed in sport at the level these guys have, but only the most casual fan fails to acknowledge the effort and grit that both of these guys showed to keep it going till the very end. You need to find a new sport to hate.
However, I will concede that I will consider this as a contender for KOTY, to be fair.
