————-The ball, apparently, is in Caleb Plant's court. Jose Benavidez Sr., the father, manager, and trainer of 168-pound contender David Benavidez, alerted the boxing world Friday that he and his team were working to "close" a deal with former 168-pound titlist Caleb Plant. The two fighters, neither of whom are much of a fan of the other, have been circling each other for the past several years but have thus far failed to transfer their animus into an actual ring.

I wonder What the Canelo haters will say IF Plant beats Benavidez. I hope this fight happens. A win by Plant puts to rest the ducking nonsense although, another boogeyman will be invented.

It wasn't a cut stoppage. The towel was thrown in because Benavidez was beating the holy hell out of Dirrell. You must have memory problems. Hopefully Plant takes the fight but would be surprised.Caleb Plant has become exposed as a boxer that can't handle power punches. He'll lose, most likely by a knockout.
I'd rather see Benavidez vs Dirrell in a rematch. Dirrell started to outbox Benavidez in their first encounter. If it wasn't for a cut stoppage, I was expecting that fight to go to the scorecards.....where a decision would have been up for grabs.

And I wonder what the canelo fan boys will say if Benavidez beats Plant in a far more convincing way than Canelo did?Comment

There's no shame in losing to a P4P #1, but when your resume is questioned, and then you get beat up, people usually see how great one can or can't become. I'm sorry Plant was exposed. And I rooted for him because he spoke with such confidence going into his fight with Canelo. I now put him in the fools gold category along with recent losers Chris Colbert and A Mere Con.Comment

TBH, I forgot exactly how the fight ended. I do remember that it didn't go 12, that the cut affected Dirrell's strategy, that Dirrell actually exposed some of Benavidez's weaknesses as a boxer, that the fight was entertaining, and that it would be even more entertaining a second time around....just as long as no one is cut.
Benavidez is hoping to fight Plant, because he knows he'll get the knockout (probably in more spectacular fashion than Canelo did), that it will be a nice name to put on his resume, and Benavidez would be able to use a ko over Plant to entice Canelo into facing him. It's a smart strategy, but a predictable fight. Plant has a boxer's chance, but I don't think he can handle Benavidez's power...or relentless activity.Last edited by Lefty0616; 03-12-2022, 11:54 AM.Comment

Canelo is just not a power puncher.......Caleb Plant has become exposed as a boxer that can't handle power punches.
Dirrell and Benavidez are both calling for Canelo. I would like to see them fight each other, with the winner getting Canelo.
But Plant is done. Let him fight Saunders - another pretender.Comment

I wonder what the canelo haters will say if Benavidez not only doesn't stop Plant before Canelo but loses the fight.
Stop with this "taking sides bs", both Benavidez and Plant are top 4 SMW's, this is what boxing needs the best fighting the best if Canelo is booked this fight makes perfect sense, to be honest from my perspective i can see Benavidez stopping Plant before round 11 but I also can see Plant going the full 12, it's a great fight and the only thing we should be talking about is about wanting it to get done plus discussing the possible outcome based on styles.
Also very hyped if CharoMunguia gets done, great style matchup.Comment
