    The Problem With MMA

    Saw last night’s fight live

does anyone without a grappling background enjoy seeing two people on the ground wrapping their arms around each other

many moments when I focused on my wings instead of the action

It's effective, and they have high skills on the ground

Unfortunately, they have very basic skills standing up. I usually watch the UFC main events after a boxing card, since they overlap most of the time. It is a visually, massive downgrade in skill. Winging punches, no creativity, no combinations, poor technique and defense, etc. . But, I understand why mma fighters can't do many of the things boxers do in a fight. Rolling and ducking punches isn't viable for mma, you may have a kick coming your way if you roll

Just a different sport overall. Strong wrestlers with basic hands is the formula for MMA. Very frustrating to watch if you're a strictly boxing fan

Nahh not me. I tried to get into it but in the end I just recorded a UFC card and then have it on fast forward until I saw 2 guys stood up swinging at each other..

I totally understand the skill and techniques but it isn't for me.

Dry humping is what will keep that sport viewed as a side show act

After the Chocolatito fight, watching Covington lunging in with wild telegraphed punches and no defence was somewhat of a downgrade.

His wrestling was on point though and he was doing some impressive transitions.

It’s been a while since I’ve really enjoyed a UFC main event.

            Is Max Holloway fighting soon?

MMA is still a bunch of grab assers who are poor at every discipline IMO.

I don't think MMA is doomed to always be filled with athletes who are not great at anything, but I do think it's yet to mature to a state where they can box with boxers and roll with rasslers. I mean, that's what conventional wisdom and mixing up has shown us right?

Folks say it's like golf and baseball but I can't actually name a golfer who was good at baseball or a baseball player who was good at golfing, but, I can tell you all the boxing champions who were also good at open rules fighting.

Folks like to think of MMA as this new thing but it's not. Nothing could be older than open rules fighting and the path to just punching does not skip the kicks and throws. You only have to look back to the 1890s for boxers known for their wrestling abilities. If you take it as far back as ancients, they had a name for a champion who was champion in boxing, wrestling, and MMA. The ancient "heavy" champion is not a weight division champion, there is no weight divisions. It's a champion who unified the combat sports.

Isn't that something cool to think about? What if say Fury beat up Usyk then retired unbeaten in boxing, then slide over to UFC and took their title, then went to Glory for their title. Dude done has WWE, I'm kidding, if he won a Bravo though...yeah man, that's a heavy champion. That's just being Theagenes. Y'all might act like it's new but it's super old and has been part of boxing history for thousands of years

back to the 1800s, Aaron Hewlett Molyneaux.

and anytime in between I can bring up a boxer who was a wrestling champion as well or a wrestler who was a boxing champion as well.

It is not that a boxer can't win UFC or that a UFC guy can't win the boxing belts. It's current boxers suck at wrestling and kicking, AND, current MMA fighters suck at fighting tbh.

Conor McNugget was never taught to throw a proper punch. That's not "MMA" boxing. It's just **** and nothing can possible be more embarrassing than being walked through by Floyd, please don't punch me, Mayweather. Jesus.

People focus on Brock's credentials to justify the beast beasting through the UFC. Those credit were over a decade old. A dude who spent a decade on the shelf not only out rolled guys who were training and fighting actively the entire time, but he also beat some of them standing up. Cause they ******.

What Francis again? Just some rando African with a punch? Been training a whole month or so? course I'm being a bit of a **** but how big am I exaggerating? Francis is really basically a walk-in champion.....because MMA is filled with horse **** fighters.

Last note, winkljohn's whole credentials and backstory sound like frank dux ****. No one should be trained by that ****. No wonder these guys can't fight for ****.

I have no grappling background and learned to enjoy it. Its exciting when they do skillful transitions to ground and pound and submission. It's boring when they just lay on each other and win an ugly and boring fight.

But it's not really different to spoiler boxer who clinch as soon as the fight gets on the inside. Or attack with a flurry and then step into a clinch. that's an awful fight to watch especially for a casual fan.

Say what you want about the sport but Their Fans>you Whiny always Complaining IDIOTS who don't even support the Sport you claim to be this big fan of but always have these Demands from the sport and wanting all these big fights that you will Illegal Stream anyway

Wrestling/Takedowns are part of MMA, that is why it is called "MIXED Martial Arts" so if you're going up against a great Wrestler then you have to prepare for that and work on your takedown Defense. No different than Boxing really, if you going up against a slickster, you prepare for that and work on cutting the ring off and setting traps to try and catch him. You don't get picked apart for 12 Rounds, lose by Wide UD then run to the Presser and Social Media crying about "All He Did Was Run"

MMA have their own BETTER fans, they don't need us Fickle Boxing Fans to bring our Bitter Negative Energy in their world no way. Nobody is forcing us to watch and nobody is begging us to watch but yet Boxing Fans sure do seem to watch only to come and complain about it lol

Gets my money's worth MORE from UFC Cards than I do Boxing that is sure sure, especially over the last couple of years

You should watch Israel "Stylebender" Adesanya. He doesn't do that gay dry humping stuff.
