I left my OP clean, kinda proud of that. But a wizard must wizard and a history nerd must history nerd. I'ma gonna bring some historical context to this ****....um, Boxing history, not wars really. Fuck kings history.
So boxing, it comes from Sparta as a war martial art. That is the Spartan Soldier's hand-to-hand training, and Spartans thought helmets were for sissies so they also hardened their skulls with boxing.
Greece, like the rest of them, liked it, thought it was effective, and adopted the martial art as one does.
Greece decided Greece fights with itself too much so it takes its martial art that would be fairly commonly known amongst their male population given and turn it into a sport to honor the god Apollo.
By myth, or state history, Apollo created boxing to deal with the misdeeds of evil men, and to show Ares war is chaos and a dreadful thing and the beauty of combat was Apollo's domain. Apollo, the pretty boy sissy god of Olympia totes whooped Ares to make his point.
So boxers became holy men, participants in ritual not unlike sacrifices. You know, usually the ****** sac is seen as holy. Same here, not priests, but holy men

The champions were the representatives of Apollo not unlike the Oracles except those are his predictive domains, boxing's a different animal and the champion is not meant to speak to Apollo but simple be a little bit of Apollo in the flesh. More like a Jesus than a pope.
Specifically so no one would dare invade the lands of the champions.
Worked for about 1 of the 2k years ancient boxing was a sport. Interestingly, it didn't turn to ****, it had a slow start. Some of the first champions actually did get genocided during their lifetime but after Boxing took some hold in Greek psyche it became unheard of for the living champion's land to be invaded by others who also believe in Apollo.
Last bit, what is the Roman name for Apollo? Ain't one, he's an OG original God. Romans did worship him, in his Greek form. Once Rome knew who Apollo was they quickly adopted his ways, they too feared the god of boxing and thought the only way he allowed them to defeat his Greeks was to punish them. To show Apollo Romans would serve him more loyally they adopted things like boxing.
No other pantheon has a god of boxing nor any fist fighting gods.

If the war is something that should put everything on hold then do it properly. Stop the sport. Stop all sport.
But if we're carrying on then I reckon it makes sense to put him into recess. He can take all the time he needs and come back when he's ready, if that's ever the case.
Something terrible is happening but that doesn't mean that life stops.Comment
