SAN DIEGO - Julio Cesar Martinez moves up in weight yet somehow arrived at the much bigger man at the scale. The reigning WBC flyweight titlist is at risk of losing out on his challenge of former four-division champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez after failing on two separate occasions to make the 115-pound junior bantamweight limit. Martinez was two full pounds over the mark at 117 pounds on the first attempt, returning to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) scale nearly two hours later where officially weighed 116.4 pounds. Per CSAC rules, Martinez will be fined payable to Gonzalez--ever the professional who weighed 114.7 pounds on his first attempt. As of Friday morning, the fight was in jeopardy of being canceled. The fight is currently scheduled to headline a DAZN telecast Saturday evening from Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
