This. I like reading some American forums and Fury is very much seen as the defacto champion. The problem Joshua had is that he never took out a convincing American heavyweight (bar a stinker of a rematch with Ruiz). He hasn't really had the air of defacto champion for three years now, and even then there were endless calls for him to fight Wilder.
Fury is far less marketability but, for many Brits, I feel this is the first time a heavyweight champion feels like the guy. I think with Joshua's reign people were trying to convince themselves that he was but they never really bought into it.
