Probably the Canadians that you had conversation with didn't go the right places where they can find and enjoy ****** beaches (white sand) that are free of western influences. Northernmost and Southern Philippines are the destinations to go if you want to see exotic places.

I highly recommend Palawan and Batanes as the best places for tourist that would be interested in unadulterated and unspoiled ambiance.
