Comments Thread For: Edgar Berlanga: I Think 2022 is Going To Be a Big Year For Me, and I Can't Wait

Super middleweight contender Edgar "The Chosen One" Berlanga went the distance twice last year following 16 first-round stoppages to begin his pro career. After surgery to repair a torn biceps suffered last October against Marcelo Esteban Coceres, Berlanga (18-0, 16 KOs) will make his 2022 debut Saturday, March 19 in a 10-rounder against Steve Rolls (21-1, 12 KOs) at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Well, try at least to avoid ending like Felix Verdejo to begin with.

Berlanga needs to fight Danny Jacobs, after Rolls! What ever happened to Steen Nelson? Has he fought since 2020?

He'd probably get knocked out by the top six or eight guys. He has to get a good payday somewhere, and with his style, he can.

Let's see how Edgar Berlanga does in 2022, if he goes 4-0 with a couple of more knockout's against progressively better opposition.
The promoter's, and sanctioning bodies are going to have to give him a shot at the title in the beginning of 2023.
If he's able to win 4 fights in 2022, that'll bring up his record to 22-0, he'll be more than ready to fight for the title by then.
If he can't win the title at that juncture, then he's not what he was built up to be, but if he wins the title and doesn't let it go to his head.
Then watch out because we have a possible star in the future, who'll make a lot of noise for years to come.

I can’t see him having a great year unless he find a way to improve his weak a_S Chin or fight more low level fighters like he has been.

Maybe. I can't knock him for what he's trying to accomplish but, I just don't see it happening as his level of opposition rises. When fighters from lower weight classes give you issues, time to reconsider your options. Look out for Xander Zayas though.
