My guess would be between 1.6-1.8million PPV buys.

          Tyson-Lewis: 1.8 MIL

          Tyson-Holyfield 1: 1.59 MIL

          Tyson- McNeely: 1.55 MIL

          DelaHoya-Trinidad: 1.4 MIL

          Tyson-Bruno: 1.37 MIL

          Holyfield-Douglas: 1.06 MIL

          Tyson -Selden: 1.01 MIL

          DelaHoya- Hopkins - 1.0 Mil

          DelaHoya - Mosley 2 : 975K

          Tyson- Ruddock 1: 959K

I think Mayweather vs Pacquiao would do 1.3 to 1.6 million buys. Assuming that they both win their upcoming bouts in decisive fashion.

It won't beat Mayweather/DLH because of the serious recession that we're in, but if both Pac and Floyd are impressive looking in their next fights, it should do around 1.5 million if promoted right.

did mayweather/ de la hoya get this much hype before it was even signed?
                Rawr,

You have good taste. I gave my gf (at the time) that Tyson photo. Nicely matted and framed. She loved it.

On to your question: No, The World Awaits did not have the anticipation of May-Pac.

The benchmark that I use for May-Pac is the Whitaker/Chavez fight. Two non-mainstream fighters, but a fight that the boxing community wet their pants for. And THEN the casual fan buys in. Both guys had legitimate claims to p4p. Even their sizes are similar. W-C was fought at 145. And 145 would be a great weight for May-Pac as well.

Whitaker vs. Chavez did 740K. There are about 1.5x as many cables boxes now. I figure the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, with improved marketing and promotion, would do 2x what Whitakr-Chavez did. On the high side.

500 Billion. I mean, give or take a few billion. I am factoring in the countless other lifeforms which would pick up on Earth's transmission in order to watch that fight, btw.

heh yea a beast among heavyweights..i don't know any (non)boxing fan that wouldn't appreciate that tyson flick.

exactly my thoughts. i couldn't recall a significant historic fight since the whitaker/chavez bout. a fight the boxing community will enjoy as much as the casual fans. shame whitaker/chavez weren't as globally recognized to the mainstream then as to pacquiao/mayweather now.

anyways i didn't think that mayweather/de la hoya had the same anticipation of this build-up of a pacquiao/mayweather. however with the state of the economy i doubt it'll surpass 2.4 mil.
