Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia Parts Ways With Reynoso, Hires Joe Goossen as Head Trainer

Ryan Garcia is not only back but with an entirely new supporting cast. The unbeaten lightweight dropped a stunning announcement ahead of his ring return, as he will now work under the guidance of renowned trainer Joe Goossen. The move comes two months out from Garcia's upcoming fight with Ghana's Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15KOs), which takes place April 9 at Alamodome in San Antonio.

Yikes. I can't say this is a great look at first appearance. The Reynoso family has a full stable but I imagine Ryan would get a good amount of work with them if he wanted it.

Goossen has trained alot of fighters but I'm not overly impressed with him. I'm speculating but this feels like Garcia couldn't handle the environment of Reynoso gym and went looking for something more familiar and accommodating. Just feels like a red flag.

I hope it's not because he wanted to call the shots and be the main man in the gym. Garcia still has to pay his dues and prove he belong at the top. He's still a contender with no wins against top fighters. Whether you like Canelo and Reynoso or not, they put in the work.

I didn't know Goosen worked with Ryan in the past. If so, maybe that more familiar relationship, along with what will certainly be more head trainer time, and the comfortable surroundings of his own gym is what he needs to stabilize himself.

Could be as simple as Goosen has more time for Ryan than Reynoso does. Who does Goosen currently train? Chris Arreola and who else?

Agree. That Reynoso gym is only for serious boxers. No room there for entitled head cases.

Goosen is a very very good trainer. The kid can learn a lot from goosen in and outside of the ring
