Comments Thread For: The Canelo Sweepstakes: Do We Have a Winner?

By Cliff Rold - There are a handful of fighters whose every move is monitored. They help define the metrics of the sport. Saul Alvarez is right at the top of that heap right now. Since a unification win over Caleb Plant last year at super middleweight, speculation about what would be next for Alvarez has never been far from the headlines

Hell yeah I’m glad we’re finally getting the Golovkin trilogy. A lot of people say he was robbed in both fights so this fight makes sense and will do huge numbers.

"What will everyone who didn’t get chosen this time do to improve their chances next time around?"

Not a darn thing. They'll continue to take the path of least resistance so as to not risk the big payday.

And somehow it will still be Canelo who gets criticized for "ducking" while they get a pass.

Yeah, if I'm Charlo or Boo Boo I'm just moving on it's apparent that the Cinnamon fight won't ever happen. Not anything at 168 besides a Benavidez that won't be at 168 much longer. Might as well unify then just go back to fighting whoever, get a few million and retire happily.

I know they won't do it but I wouldn't even say Cinnamon's name anymore people will play hype man talking up Bivol (boring as ****) and GGG(shot as ****) but we all know what time it is.

I am asking this seriously - does Bivol or Charlo have a real shot at beating Canelo? I struggle to think so. With GGG older and Canelo’s skills growing, the only scrap I can get excited about is Beterbiev

It's not bad fights at all, but yes, would rather see him fight Charlo than Bivol for his next one.

Obviously a Benavidez fight would probably be the best of all, and Beterbiev, but that won't happen this year.

Bivol is one of my favorite boxers. My dad taught me to not get hit. Apparently his did as well.

My favorite thing about him is the way he answers back when somebody's rings his bell. When he gets hit he can definitely go into another gear. I hope I finally get to see somebody push his abilities. I have to say since Dmitry Bivol has been champ I haven't seen him under pressure but just a few times and he answered back with violence.

On the GGG side, 40 is what it is and I have a hard time seeing how he could stand up to what Canelo has become since 2018.

GGG was such a force of nature and a beast I wouldn’t be surprised he comes back like a wrecking ball, stomping Murata and giving Canelo all he can handle once again. Sure he’s 40 but by all accounts a healthy guy. Personally I can relate, I’m 40 and still fast and stronger than ever.
